The biggest question about TMD's posts on here since May is this:

Did United win the League last season?

A bad thing happened (general consensus among fans / the game). It went unpunished. The only thing one can do is NOT move on but remind people of what happened so it doesn't happen again. A lot of history taught in schools today seems to work on the same principle.

I personally think enough safeguards are in place now to make sure it can't happen again.

AFC Wimbledon are getting a bit precious about all of this aren't they? Feeling the need to release a statement saying how they never wanted the game to happen but they'll fulfill the fixture anyway? Why do that if only to draww attention towards yourselves? Jesus, if they have that much of a hang-up about the fixture occurring and being played then don't enter the competitions that MK Dons enter.

Has to be said that Kingstonian fans don't exactly expresse warm feelings towards AFCW either...

I think they issued the statement in response to all the press enquiries they were getting.

Not sure that they're the same Kingstonian fans that I know - their club and ground was saved and they pay virtually nothing in rent. Without AFCW they'd not exist any longer.

southbank1871 According to Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimbledon_F.C.#Supporters

With relegation, attendances dropped catastrophically to an average of only 7,897 during 2000–01. Wimbledon averaged 6,961 during the final season before the club's relocation to Milton Keynes was confirmed.

So it's hardly an unusual drop considering they're currently two divisions below this.

Sure the 'lesser games' of Bradford, Coventry et al were 3000-4000, topped up to 11k or so when bigger teams were in town.

Pete Winkelman and everyone connected to the club should hold their heads high at what they have achieved in the last eight year

MK Dons are the shittest, most detestable club in the football pyramid.

TheMaraudingDog The biggest belmonts are the AFC Kingston fans while genuinely believe that they are Wimbledon FC. That club moved to MK and the Judas twats set up in their own.

Whilst one can sympathise with the AFC Wimbledon fans for the history, one thing which they cannot deny is that if they (AFC Wimbledon) want to progress up the leagues, they will have to play MK Dons. Hoping for some divine intervention to prevent the meeting from taking place (i.e. AFC WImbledon passing MK Dons via promotion/relegation and never being in the same league at any time or MK Dons suddenly going bust or hit by an asteroid) is rather stupid.

southbank1871 I assume TMD is talking about this thread:

http://www.concreteroundabout.co.uk/php ... f=4&t=5655

All a bit embarrassing really.

Why such a fuss about AFC not actually being the old Wimbledon?

People talk about Aldershot and Accrington Stanley getting back into the league, when in reality they haven't got back, as they are new clubs, so it's a rather petty thing to get annoyed about. Heck, people even talk about Accrington Stanley being founder members of the league, when that was a completely different club.

Yep, it shouldn't have happened, but it only happened because of a specific set of circumstances which won't reoccur.

Too much has happened and too much time has passed to do anything except move on - especially as MKD have handed over the "history and honours" of Wimbledon FC to the London Borough of Merton, and effectively renounced any links with the old Wimbledon club.

Whilst everyone takes different viewpoints about AFC Wimbledon/MK Dons, now try to imagine if a similar thing happened to Reading. Imagine there was no Sir JM or the Madejski Stadium. Also imagine completely different owners and a different environment for the past 20 years....

During the 1990s, Reading had been stuck in a rut at Elm Park and in desperate need for a new stadium. There was nowhere to build one nor the money. The club have slipped down the league and a deteriorating stadium meant only the North Stand was safe to use. Languishing in the bottom half of the fourth tier of English football and having suffered heavy home defeats to Swindon, Aldershot and Oxford, the owners suggested the idea of moving Reading to Worcester. Worcester was lacking a league team and there was a good market for supporters in that area.

Hardcore Reading fans broke away and formed a new club AFC Reading.

Meanwhile, the old Reading FC were eventually granted permission to move and did so in 2002. Support completely dried up and Reading FC fell into administration. A Worcester tycoon brought Reading FC out of administration and renamed the club to Worcester Royals. Playing at a nice new stadium with a new local fan base, the years passed. Meanwhile, AFC Reading made it into League Two (current day) and were drawn in the FA Cup to play away to League One Worcester Royals....

Would you feel it was time to move on - after all, if AFC Reading are to progress, they will need to play against anyone? How would you feel?

You should probably add that the new AFC Reading are playing in Newbury or somewhere similar.

I don't think AFC fans will ever move on and i don't think they should. But at the same time i doubt they spend much of their time worrying about MK Dons its only the fact they've been drawn to play them that its something the Wind up merchants have latched on to.
