I suppose if he comes here in the middle of a relegation battle he figures he won't get in the team right now. That means he'd then have to wait until August to get a run, either in the PL or Championship. 7 months is quite a long time to give up regular football.

yappy This link seems to suggest the deal is off altogether:

Shame, as I was quite excited about this one.

Is his agent the same Andy Bernal that played right back for us in the early-mid 90's?

Barry the bird boggler 3) He rejected the chance to move to an unnamed Australian side during the summer opting to stay with current side CCM where he has scored five goals in 24 matches.

He is an attacking midfielder not a striker. But yes you're right, let's pick apart the guy before you even witness him kicking a ball. Cause 400k really get's you a lot these days? Why didn't they sign Ronaldo or Messi..?

I did warn you about the half wits on here!
The worst thing about most of them is that they don't actually know anything about football, apart from how to turn on a playstation! The same morons moaned about shane long (cost us about £65k)!
Like you said, Australia has produced some real world class players, and should have got to a world cup semi final (if the ref wasn't a dodgy git!). £400k is a very modest transfer fee for a player at his age with his reputation.
Being a smaller club is all about gambling on little known players, who end up leaving for big bucks to the wealthier clubs. For me, that's the appeal.

Im not moaning that this is a bad signing but at the position we are in now, we need PREMIER LEAGUE EXPERIENCE. I wouldn't mind this signing as long as it doesn't cost us signing someone who as actually played in the premier league and is going to help us in this relegation battle.
Happy this deal look like its off, Can spend the money on proper prem players.

The problem with aiming to get a player with premier league experience is who with that can Reading attract? Without blowing the bank balance and probably do a QPR and destroy the clubs ethos.

Look at QPR they have Champions league winners, premier league winners etc. but doing worse than a side you are just calling for premier league experience? I don't see experience the problem, it is quality on the ball is what is missing. Carrico can add that in the defensive part of midfield and now just need a attacking midfielder.

I'd rather us try and be smart in the transfer market and go for quality players in positions we need.

Agree with this but personally I think we need a new full back too.

Nick Powell has been banded around a lot. Been linked with Peterborough because of Darren.

Surely Powell on loan would be realistic and I imagine he's a better player than Rogic. I

I agree its not Prem experience we need its better players. Michu doesn't have any experience and he's done OK hasn't he???

I would love it, LOVE it, if Nick Powell came here.

Saw him playing for Crewe a lot last year, and was not surprised in the slightest when he went to a Top 4 club.

frimmers3 i think you should snap up tom huddlestone.

its certainly a reading signing in the young and hungry mould
i just cant see him wanting to come here, and am very wary in that hes been around for ages, and has never done anything of note.
though im aware that this is probably the kind of signing we will have to gamble on

A good friend of mine has just moved back here after living in oz for several years, he is primarily a sports journalist and I was talking to him about this kid at the weekend. FWIW his opinion is that Rogic is good, but not the finished article, however the way he described him is almost exactly the type of player we need, big, strong, good attitude, but more importantly, 100% creative. Loves to make goals instead of scoring, and has that 'vision' that all pundits talk about in hushed tones.

On another note, I personally am gutted that it looks like this wont happen. I think that this is the type of transfer that we should be going for, and getting promoted to the prem has given us that little bit more credit, especially with Johnny Foreigner.

Sounds like the deal has been scuppered not only because of our perilous position but, if the values quoted elsewhere are accurate, the seeming never ending penny pinching that goes on at the club....

Tom Rogic's proposed move to Barclays Premier League club Reading is close to collapsing after the young gun became concerned the move wasn't right for him.

Central Coast Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull had expected to sell both Rogic and Ryan to English clubs this week but Ryan's proposed deal with nPower Championship side Derby County has also stalled over the personal terms offered to the 20-year-old goalkeeper.

Instead, Ryan will depart on Monday for a "training period" with the fallen Scottish giants who have a transfer embargo until September and can't sign anyone until then.

The agreement for Rogic to go to Reading, meanwhile, which appeared to be a done deal, has hit two problems, with the English side only willing to pay a certain amount up front despite having agreed an in-principle figure overall.

But more pertinently, Rogic himself is believed to have felt increasingly uncomfortable that Reading represent the best platform for his development given the deepening relegation battle facing the EPL club.

Though Turnbull felt obliged to sell his star No.10, who will be off contract and able to leave the Mariners for free after the Asian Champions League campaign, it appears increasingly likely he will see out the season.

It's understood Celtic also made an inquiry about Rogic but made only a verbal [offer significantly below the figure that would prompt the Mariners to sell.

thats not penny pinching, its a sensible, pragmatic transfer policy

you ay a fair ammount for an unproven ozzie kid whos never played anywhere decent, and give them loads of cash if he turns out to be brilliant

I reckon he'd find himself on the bench at best, at most PL clubs, to be honest. And if he's not up for a relegation battle, then he's the wrong sort of player for us at the moment anyway.

Deal now dead according to tv over here tonight. Looks like his advisors have told him not to go rather than us penny pinching. Pundits saying it wasn't the right move for him as we were only it for the money (lolwut) and wouldn't look after him
