I can understand luring the sought-after David Silva to Eastlands for £140,000-a-week, but giving a quarter-of-a-million quid every seven days to a defensive squad player who no other club would have touched for that kind of money and whose name won’t sell shirts, is insanity on a previously unimagined scale. .

Toure is not actually that great. He’s not a creative genius who will get backsides off seats but a defensive midfielder who stops players who can.

Football JouROFLnaLOLism in this country - ranks slightly lower than Politican, Insurance Broker & Estate Agent in terms of credibility. With gash such as that quoted above passing for journalistic comment it is no wonder that Oliver Holt is actually considered one of the more accomplished in his field.

It's all set up perfectly for the last day - whilst Liverpool overcome a stubborn Newcastle 2-0, a jittery Citeh do everything but score against West Ham and then in the last minute, Andy Carroll rises like a salmon and gets his head to a corner, powering it past a dumbfounded Joe Hart who collapses to the ground in a JT-like heap of tears.

I'm reminded of West Ham v Man U in '95, although the 'ammers just had to hold out for a draw to spoil things that time, I do like the idea of Carroll winning the league for Brendan

That was the day when we played brilliantly at Tranmere and won 3-1 in the first leg of the play-offs.
We stopped at a garage in Warrington and heard the closing stages of that game as Andy Cole missed another sitter and Blackburn under King Kenny won the title despite losing that day at Anfield.
Much as I would like to see Andy Carroll score the winning goal and Liverpool to put the final nail in Pardew's coffin it looks as though City are there and bookies now make them 1/40 to win it.

So if City are 1/40, what odds can you get on Liverpool? City should do it, but these odds are ridiculous.

I'll lump a tenner on Liverpool, just for the off chance.

Or if you would prefer to take a price better than the worst on the market, you could take BetVictor’s 20/1 or the 19s available with 888sport or Unibet.

Liverpool/WHU double is the only outcome where Liverpool win the league (realistically) isn't it? Because that's about 20/1 on bet365

Liverpool to win the league is 18-1 West HAm to win their game is 16-1. Not sure how doubles work but imagine it'd be higher than 20-1

obvs West Ham have to win for Liverpool to win the league

West Ham winning is built in to the price of 18/1 for Liverpool winning the league.

You won't be able to select those two separate bets as a double.

You'll be able to back a Liverpool (2/9) and West Ham (17/1) to win their respective matches. That works out at 21/1.

At a meeting today I spoke to someone whose colleague manages Chesterfields' U12 team.

One lad from Chesterfield U12's has gone to Man City, and part of the deal was that the 2 teams would play each other. Obviously this guy spoke to the Man. City U12 manager. Talk got onto remuneration; the Chesterfield guy said he gets his petrol paid when on Chesterfield U 12 work (going to games, training etc).

His equivalent at Man City is on £70k a year!
