My view re: Henderson is that he and Gerrard know each others games inside out and will hopefully carry on their club form into the tournament. Can't see Lampard starting any games (hopefully) - only to be used as a sub if we're chasing a game. More I think about it, the more disappointed I am for Carrick, he's a quality player and probably the best range of passing after Gerrard.

LWJ Hope we start with a team like;

------------------Hart-----------------
Jagielka--Cahill--Smalling--Baines
--------Gerrard---Wilshere---------
Oxlade--------Barkley--------Milner
-------------Sturridge----------------

Would have liked to see Terry come out of retirement tbh, our cbs look weak as. Also would have preferred Carrick to Henderson and Defoe to Welbeck.

Jagielka at right back? Are you high?

Sorry meant Johnson! No Idea why I put Jagielka

I wonder why you picked this game and a slip as an example of handling pressure rather than one of the many penalties this season or the almost-single-handedly beating of AC Milan in THAT champs league final.
Presumably one of the many reasons why John Terry is not going is failing to handle the pressure of taking a penalty in a Champs League final.

Is it because one was this season and the other was almost a decade ago?

Plus Milner in the side, and calling for Terry, Carrick and Defoe back?

Surprised a young 'un can't see the positives of a young and attack-minded squad.

Milner there for his work rate alone.

Defoe > Welbeck imo

And I don't think Henderson is the way forward for England.

I can see the positives. But we don't want to become Liverpool where we rely on attacking alone to win a game.. we need to be solid at the back and work from there.

Best of a bad bunch, hence why I thought they should have tried for Terry tbh.

LWJ Milner there for his work rate alone.

Then i would say Milner needs to be on the right, not the left, so he can get back and help Johnson - something Ox won't do as much

We can make a starting 11 out of players who have had excellent, full seasons, so let's do that.
The likes of Milner, Wilshere, Lampard, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Milner do not deserve to start.

Not sure how anyone can leave Lallana and Sterling out of the side given their respective form. Milner, despite not being my favourite player, has stepped up for City this season and could be useful at some point to counter a threat from full back, but as Italy don't have that...

Hart

Johnson
Jags
Cahill
Baines

Gerrard
Wilshere

Sterling
Rooney
Lallana

Sturridge

Sturridge will play wide one side, Welbeck the other and Rooney up top. I prefer your line up but just can't see Roy playing 2 unknown quantities in Lallana & Sterling.

Also expect to see Henderson in place of Wilshere.

Ouroboros
Ian Royal Don't see why Cole should retire unless it's sour grapes for not getting in the squad. Seems typical of the egomaniac. However diplomatically he's phrased it.

While I suppose you can make the above argument about nearly any international retirement, it hardly seems like sour grapes. He's just essentially been told that Hodgson doesn't see him as part of the future of the side. Retiring seems little more than making official the obvious.

I am against international retirement full stop. You retire from football, or you accept a call up when it's offered to you as it's an honour.

P!ssed Off England World Cup squad

Goalkeepers
Joe Hart (Manchester City)
Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion)
Fraser Forster (Celtic)

Defenders
Leighton Baines (Everton)
Gary Cahill (Chelsea)
Phil Jagielka (Everton)
Glen Johnson (Liverpool)
Phil Jones (Man Utd)
Luke Shaw (Southampton)
Chris Smalling (Man Utd)

Midfielders
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) - captain
Ross Barkley (Everton)
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
Adam Lallana (Southampton)
Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
James Milner (Manchester City)
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal)
Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Strikers
Rickie Lambert (Southampton)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)
Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

Standby
Michael Carrick (Manchester United)
Andy Carroll (West Ham United)
Tom Cleverley (Manchester United)
Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC)
Jon Flanagan (Liverpool)
John Ruddy (Norwich City)
John Stones (Everton)

Delighted with that squad, apart from Jones. Not that we've got much in the way of options for right back / centreback as an alternative.

St. Brynjar Would have taken Barry over Lampard and Gibbs over Shaw. Other than that can't complain too much. I'd like to see:

----------------------------Hart----------------------------

Johnson---------Cahill----------Jones-----------Baines

--------Milner----------Gerrard---------Wilshere--------

-------Sterling---------Rooney----------Sturridge-------

Glad you're not England manager then.

Constructive response as always.

So many errors in your squad/team selection, I don't have the time to give an in depth critique.

genome How good is Wilshere further back or is he too lightweight?

If he's playing further back its not in a defensive/holding role. A Pirlo not a Gattuso as it were.

I know everyone is raving about Luke Shaw but i personally think Kieran Gibbs is a better left back than he is and has the experience of big games.

Shaw is good going forward but is naive when it comes to defending, as shown on a number of occasions this season.

Why is Gibbs being overlooked (and not even put on the reserve list).....also, if Baines gets injured why will Roy try and persuade Cole to come out of his hissy-fit retirement
