NL Preview of this w/e - its the opening round of the FA Cup. :)

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Fri 15th 19:30 Staines Lammas v Bedfont Sports @ Ashford Town (Mx)
Fri 15th 19:45 AFC Dunstable v Ampthill Town

Saturday 16th August
FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round
Alresford Town v Christchurch
Ardley United v Ash United
Ascot United v Tadley Calleva - being played at Barlows Park Tadley - presumably due to big events at Ascot Racecourse this w/e (Red Bull Air race) ?
Ashford Town (Middx) v Berkhamsted
Badshot Lea v Binfield @ Ash Utd FC - watched the Moles suffer an upset on Monday night - beaten at home by a very lively Nomads side 2-3. Binfield do look more potent up front following return of Ian Davies from Marlow and the acquisition of Dickens from Flackwell. Need to do something about a fairly pedestrian looking midfield though. :?

Bridport v Highworth Town
Brimscombe & Thrupp v Windsor - Windsor fans who are going are in for a treat. This is a lovely aspected ground set down off the main road (A419) into Stroud located between the road and the river Frome. Local brewery very near by too. Edged past Frimley G 2-1 on Tuesday

Brockenhurst v Wootton Bassett Town
Cheltenham Saracens v Camberley Town
Chertsey Town v Milton United - 'Curfews' got off the mark on Tuesday with a welcome win at @ Horley Town.
Chessington & Hook United v Worthing United
Chichester City v Mole Valley SCR
Colliers Wood United v Lordswood
Cove v Thame United - in the midweek CCL games Cove won their 4th of 4 - 2-1 at Knaphill - and now sit 2nd on GD behind new comers Spelthorne who won a thriller 4-3 at Guildford on Wednesday. One other 100% side are Molesey who have only played 3.

Fairford Town v Knaphill
Farnham Town v Highmoor Ibis - H/I won their 2nd league game at Holyport 1-0 on Tuesday
Flackwell Heath v Bracknell Town - Heathens have had a promising start: beat Thatcham 3-2 on opening w/e; then battered Ascot 4-1 at Racecourse in midweek - 'Robins' slip to defeat on Tuesday H vs Thame.

Guildford City v Ashford United
Hartley Wintney v Frimley Green
Horsham YMCA v Alton Town
Kidlington v Newbury
Long Buckby v Hanworth Villa
Lymington Town v Winchester City
Molesey v Haywards Heath Town
Petersfield Town v Bristol Manor Farm
Pewsey Vale v Sherborne Town
Reading Town v Shrivenham - watched Shrivy go down 1-2 vs Kidlington on Wed night - slightly unfortunate defeat to a late penalty. Kiddy top the league on GD thanks to their 5-0 mauling of Holyport last w/e

Slimbridge v Thatcham Town - 'Kingfishers' get up and running with a comfortable 4-1 win over Abingdon Utd
Tring Athletic v Holmer Green
Wellingborough Town v Bedfont & Feltham
Westfield v Horley Town
Whitchurch United v Hallen

Sun 17th Aug 13:00 Holyport v Abingdon United
Sun 17th Aug 15:00 Epsom Athletic v Littlehampton Town - @ Chalky Lane Chessington & Hook FC

CONFP
Woking v Macclesfield Town
Sun 17 Aug 15:00 AFC Telford Utd v Aldershot Town
CONFS
Bath City v Chelmsford City
Bishops Stortford v Maidenhead United

Eastbourne Borough v Weston-Super-Mare
Ebbsfleet United v Havant & Waterlooville
Farnborough v St Albans City
Gosport Borough v Wealdstone
Hayes & Yeading Utd v Concord Rangers

St Ives Town v Beaconsfield SYCOB

...without looking up any reports I'm afraid I was being strictly quantitative - so please enlighten if needs be! :P
I believe I've read elsewhere this evening (posted by you probably!) that Frimley Gs goal was a late consolation and no more?

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
LATE NEWS - tonight's all Combined Counties FA Cup tie between Lammas and Bedfont Sports, went the way of the Div One side who came from behind with two very late goals - winner on 93' I think - to progress 3-2.

Lammas will host Barton Rovers from the Southern Div One Central in the next round; w/e 30th Aug - so probably a Fri/Sun tie again - unless their landlords - Ashford Town (Mx) - don't have a game. If they manage to get past Berko tomorrow, they'll be hosting Daventry also from SOUTH1C.

Yes, that would have been me.

After our defeat last Saturday one of our ever present players (Rob Lazarczuk) apparently walked away. 2 reports, one that he wasn't enjoying his football anymore and another (via some players) that he didn't like the fact that the manager was not being loyal to the players from last season. Big player for Windsor and scored a lot of goals but I am not sad to see him go. He's the one who never smiled, never spoke or even looked at the fans, the one to get booked / sent off for petulance, the one to kick the ball away, not pick it up as he walks past it on the way to take a throw, stand 3 yards away from the ball at an oppo free kick etc. etc.

Interestingly his 18 year old brother who has played every game so far this season (despite looking and playing like a boy against men) had his best game by far on Tuesday without big bro in the team.

... not sure what they'll charge to get in to this (is/was £9.00 for league games would hope B&B is less) - need to keep an eye on the RFC site or Marlow FC news feeds via

http://www.marlowfc.co.uk/

... last years 1st round ties started about mid-Sept and ran thru to mid-Oct - evidently will depend upon gaps in respective fixture schedules - though for Marlow, County Cup ties take priority over league games - or used to. RFC doubtless will send an 'XI' made up of fringe and Academy - so should be more flexible. First obvious clear week for both clubs looks to be from 22nd Sept -> though I'm sure we could send a side there the week before - no need to have it clash with H v Millwall on 16th though?

... anyone going - take some extra dosh for the excellent food outlet (Carol's Kitchen ?) well worth the inevitable queues - bar is not bad either under the lovely old elevated stand. Usually got a variant of Rebellion Ale on.

Four Of Clubs Hartley Wintney A-A Frimley Green
Abandoned by Referee at H/T - reportedly brawling between the teams in/around the dressing room area - may well lead to expulsion for both and a free passage to 1st Qualifying Round for Ardley Utd who would normally await the winners in the Preliminary

1st half highlights here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA2lZrB-PwM

Before seeing the video I had thought that maybe some Hartley Wintney players were regular visitors to this board and quite naturally took exception to their opponents' team name. I guess the aftermath of a bad challenge is a more likely explanation.

Thoroughly enjoyable trip to Stroud yesterday and FoC is absolutely nailed on about how picturesque the ground is. If anyone wants to venture out west it is well worth it.

Alan Partridge Going to watch Diddy tonight, expect Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid to be in the top 5 or thereabouts at the end of the season this year.

...Oh well - there's always next year? 8)

Larkhall are no mugs so I wasn't that surprised by the 0-3; -they have been a force in one of the strongest STEP05 leagues for a few years now - were rumoured to be paying for their much higher-level forwards even when back in STEP06, to get up the pyramid.

You must try and get to the away match though - the ground is a belter up above Bath - and just like Shortwood, for those who've been there, up an impossible narrow windy-hill.
Diddy fans better pack their crampons! :P

Elsewhere tonight:

Conference South :- only one match - Magpies got a point at Gosport
Southern League :- Hungerford lost 1-2 down at Truro - Fleet lost by the same score at Taunton - Sluff got a point at home to Bigg Town and Marlow were beaten 1-0 at Daventry.
I watched SYCOB get done 2-1 by Egham on Monday night - very young side there indeed - most of the first team decamped to Burnham pre-season and the current batch of Beaconsfield players are almost all taken from the FA Academy side at Bisham.

Some results from Cup replays involving 'local' sides:

Ab Utd 4-0 Holyport
Hanworth Villa 4-0 Long Buckby
Milton Utd 1-1 Cherstey Town aet - Home win 4-1 on pens.
Tadley Calleva 2-4 Ascot Utd
Thatcham 1-2 Slimbridge

... no word as yet on the ruling on the Abandoned H.Wintney v Frimley Green tie

..some league games played locally too with a couple shocks - or maybe just re-inforcing my pet theory about the disadvantages of sides travelling mid-week in the lower levels of the pyramid - especially early season -

Hellenic Premier
Brimscomb & Thrupp 3-0 Ardley Utd
RTFC 2-1 Kidlington
Thame 1-3 Flackwell Heath

..sadly another abandonment - this time at Faraday Rd - Newbury v Nomads with the score 2-2 - reportedly serious injury to player - doesn't say which team - on 70'.

Tonight (Wed 20th) Bracknell travel to (Cirencester Town FC) to play lodgers Wootton Bassett Town in an Hellenic Prem league game - and at the level above [Southern 1 S&W] Nor Lye welcome the 'Freds' (Wantage Town)
...might see if the youngest fancies a late night - he probably (like me) needs a good neutral experience to purge the memory of the MadStad's latest torment.

... he might prefer lower and more local in the TVL if only cos they are all 18:00 KOs (apart from Aldermaston) and none more than about 1/2 hour away.

Slough concede in the last minute again, but still a decent start with four games unbeaten (even if one of them does get chalked off due to the Hereford United situation).
The SYCOB thing is interesting as there were strong rumours of financial issues near the end of last season, so maybe new backers have come in hence the Academy lot - run incidentally by Nas Bashir, late of this parish I believe. Also, SYCOB had the son of Slough's legendary goalkeeper Trevor Bunting in goal for them, fact fans.

Diddy were abysmal on tuesday night, gifted a half decent side a 2 goal lead and were lucky not to be 5-0 down at half time. Put it down to a bad day at the office, still expect Diddy to be there or thereabouts at the end although they will lose on Saturday.

Alan Partridge ..... still expect Diddy to be there or thereabouts at the end although they will lose on Saturday.

.... indeed Pennydarren Park (Merthyr) not the easiest of places to get points and I'm sure the boyos will be all out to avoid the lottery of the play-offs this season. 13-14 saw them lose out to Paulton (Sluff's opponents tomorrow) last May - their only home defeat. Merthyr put 7 past Clevedon on Tuesday.

Me 'n the youngest did take the long trip up to the wildlands beyond Eynsham and Freeland, to watch 'Nor Lye' dismantle a spirited but underpowered Wantage 4-2 on Wednesday evening. I do fear slightly for the 'Freds' - they've got to hope there are three or four sides in this division (One South and West) who will have a worse season than them. Don't know if there's much money about at Wantage but they'll need to come up with something, to bridge the gap between STEP05 and STEP04 and somehow cling on to this level.
A win under their belts would help too and this Saturday they welcome fellow strugglers Bishops Cleeve. An early glance at the table might suggest them and Bashley may be Wantage's salvation.

Windsor 2-2 Cove - on the face of it a good point - will let TB or RR etc fill in the details - Cove drop their first points - still 2 sides on 100% Spelly and Molesey - with the latter keeping up their free-scoring start now 17 goals in 4 - not counting the 11 they put away in the cup last w/e

Flackwell Heath 2-2 Wootton Bassett Town youngest plumped for this one - good tussle - a point for the Heathens keeps them top but was certainly not what they'd have expected against a side that had lost one of their previous away matches 1-6 and gone down 0-5 @ home on Wednesday. WBT levelled very late on having trailed 2-0.

Yes, a decent point especially considering Windsor's captain was ridiculously sent off after a clean tackle early on in the 2nd half when score was 1-1. He got the ball but whacked it into the oppo player who was also going in for the challenge. The Cove player was hurt and stayed down, probably as a result of the ball hitting him.

We've had that ref before and he is a bespectacled buffoon.

Even the Cove bench looked a little embarrassed when the ref started talking to our player at which point we all thought "a yellow for that?" But a red? Jeez.

The only thing one has to remember is that we didn't hear what was said, if anything.

We then went and scored soon after and held out until injury time.

It was a thoroughly entertaining game with bot sides playing some cracking stuff. A draw was probably a fair result but the referee was shocking. Struggled to keep up with play, had his back to play too often, failed to talk to the players while play was going on, failed to take notice of his assistants and that is all before the ridiculous red card for Adam Kirby. None of the Cove players nor their bench made any reaction to the challenge as it was perfectly fair and safe. The Cove player was received treatment because he was winded. Then the referee failed to see a two footed lunge on Dan Molloy which could have broken the latters legs. The response by the referee was to talk to one of his assistants and then show a yellow. He also consistently failed to clamp down on the wrestling in both boxes. Such a shame as the quality of football, effort and commitment by both teams was a credit to the CCL.
