That was a bizarre news conference to introduce McClaren; only Sky Sports , Newcastle's in-house TV company the The Daily Mirror (who are supposedly in negotiations to be Newcastle's "media outlet partner") were allowed to ask questions.

A Newcastle equivalent of Graham Loader was asked what 5 things did McClaren need to do to be considered a success; they were:

1. Tell the Newcastle fans how brilliant they are, all the time
2. Get rid of the dead wood from the playing staff
3. Get the respect of the dressing room
4. Spend loads in bringing in big name players to the club
5. Go out and spend loads on bringing in a proven 30 goal a season striker.

Conclusion??

McClaren will be a failure in the eyes of the fans.

YateleyRoyal Hopefully he'll get them on a roll and they can get promoted.

He'll have the time Hovis life at Rangers, I'm sure.

Stuart Gray gone from Sheff Wed. Thought he was doing a decent job there, mid-table finish and a bit of stability is way better than they've been for a decade or so.

Carlos Carvalhal. They agreed terms with him about two weeks ago, but have only just announced it for some reason.

Was it?

He took them on an phenomenal winning streak to stay up then agreed to sack his own son. Seems a bit harsh he's had to go too

According to my Leicester supporting colleague, he had been treading a fine line with the Board for a while.

That's the sort of insight that it's just not possible to get as a neutral.

Hmmm. Claudio Ranieri is the new Leicester boss.

Not sure what to think about that.

+1

He always reminds me of the Spanish Infanta's interpreter from the first series of Blackadder.
