Alan Partridge Hello all trust you are all well

Basically been to all of Didcot's games this year apart from the Exeter one because i was stuck in Sharm-elSh*thole - How's ya luck!?

Was appalling on Tuesday but a 1-0 win from a game that should never have been played, it's frustrating following Diddy a bit because we had a better side last year and keep losing our best players, we've got absolutely no forwards but they're an honest bunch and a good bunch and it's generally been fun so far. Think we'll be top 10 but our lack of fire power will stop us making the playoffs.

And where the hell have you been for the last year?

ps Welcome back!

Alan Partridge Hello all trust you are all well

..... it's frustrating following Diddy a bit because we had a better side last year and keep losing our best players, we've got absolutely no forwards but they're an honest bunch and a good bunch and it's generally been fun so far. Welcome back AP 8)

...must grate slightly that Pablo and Millsy are tearing up trees over at Hereford:
32 goals between them according to the Bulls website. :shock:
...and even young Baines has been knocking in a few, albeit also at a lower level with Thatcham - who seem to be hoovering up all of the top goal-grabbers in the division
- just signed up Jon Bennett from rivals Flackwell AND Shane Cooper-Clark from Bracknell!

... Diddy keep appearing on my 'midweek possibles' match list but the most recent league games at the Loop haven't been that alluring - especially with your apparent lack of firepower. For example NEXT Tuesday [H v Wimborne] - is actually at the top end of what's in range for me of an evening jaunt ... but doesn't exactly 'light the fires'.

Have found myself fairly close by at Culham Rd a couple of times this season - OK - so that is STEP08 equivalent when it's the hosts (their 'lodgers' are Chinnor - at STEP06 - playing there until sometime in January - and they tend to grab the day time slots - probably won't pay extra for the lights) but the football there is honest and entertaining - goals-wise.

Might start dipping back into the N.Berks on Saturdays again soon - trouble is I've done all of the top division - though some are worth re-visits too but they don't have the old charm & 'splendour' of Abingdon Town - nor the food hatch!

Other minor drawback in poor weather is getting up to date postponement info on a weekend - though this season the NBFL has a twitter account - so for that reason when I'm 'slumming' on a Saturday I'm tending to stick to the Thames Valley League as there are more upper Pyramid options close by should things be flooded or frizzed off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...while I'm 'in' here I may as well post up the w/e preview - is an FA Vase w/e - but the weather may have a big say in what goes ahead - so check before setting out: :)
51 Kidlington v Deal Town - top of Hellenic Premier vs pretty low-down side from South Counties East (ex Kent league)
52 Colliers Wood United v Loxwood
53 Hartley Wintney v Windsor - all CCLP clash HW dropped two more points on a very soggy Tuesday in a 3-3 thriller with Epsom & E
54 Hallen v Moneyfields
55 Highworth Town v Odd Down - last years 'local' Semi-Finalists have a real tough one up against high-flyers from the Western League - often regarded as one of the strongest leagues at that level in the south.
56 Salisbury v AFC St Austell - currently leaders & big hitters from the Wessex Premier. A lot of people's fancy to go a long way this time round simply because they have dropped so low in the pyramid - hence eligible for the Vase - but they have retained much of their former 'big club' trappings (see also Hereford above) - huge crowds for a start.
Visitors from the South West Peninsula Premier, currently in 2nd place - should not be taken lightly though - constitutionally at STEP06 but more by dint of geography than playing standards. A side from fairly low down in this division (Plymouth Parkway) put 6 past Wessex League Blackfield in the last round and they are not that far adrift of Salisbury.
57 Bradford Town v Cadbury Heath
58 Buckland Athletic v Sholing - recent holders of the Vase - broke a spell of Northern domination of this competition in 13-14 but perhaps unwisely took promotion to STEP04 - now essentially back to defend their 'crown'
59 Welton Rovers v Plymouth Parkway
60 Newport (IW) v Abbey Rangers
61 Bodmin Town v Melksham Town+ no replay
62 Bristol Manor Farm v Lymington Town
63 Hengrove Athletic v Barnstaple Town
Royal Rother ps Welcome back!
Oh I wouldn't say that :wink:
Great night last night. We defended poorly for 15 minutes at the start of the second half and you can't do that against a team 3 divisions above you or you'll lose. And we did lose. But I've been lucky enough to attend every one of the 6 game FA Cup run (the same amount of games Reading played last year) and it is worth recalling that only an 89th minute equaliser at Winchester City stopped us being eliminated at the first time of asking! An awful lot of work from volunteers went into putting on the televised spectacle last night and they have my utmost respect. It has been a good FA Cup season for local clubs.
Disappointed for Maidenhead last night as much of last night's defeat was self-inflicted with a sloppy end to the 1st half/start of the 2nd half. The team and the club can be proud though and hopefully it will inspire them on to carry on the way they've started this season.
As ever lovely work FoC, yeah that's understandable if we score early games are generally ok but if we don't there have been some stinkers this season and lots of frustrating games where we do some good things but our forwards are always off the pace, in the wrong position or just mess it up. We almost lost Mills last season but a sponsor basically coughed up some dosh to keep him but then Hereford came back and blew us out the water even thought we tried to keep both, losing Elkins to North Leigh was a blow as well as he's one of the better full backs in the league, just a shame he seems a bit of a helmet.
RE Today's matches (Sat 21st) - don't seem quite as badly affected 'locally' , as the forecast suggested they might - yet!
Lad's team's game called off v.late at Palmer Pk this AM though, so it's evidently pretty soggy in places - maybe a fair few short distance league games may go under early afternoon, once the match refs turn up.
- from the Preview List above nothing gone yet @@ but it's pretty bad further east (Braintree) and down nearer the south coast (Fareham) where games have been postponed already.
@@ apart from CCL1 South Park Reserves vs Eversley & C. - (nr Redhill/Reigate) called off in the last few minutes - I suspect groundsmen are possibly arriving about this time and assessing the state of their own pitches too - where you have 'sharing' going on they do tend to be quickest off the mark, so expect Scours Lane (Woodley Utd) & maybe Ash Utd (Baggy Lea) may be matches off - but will update if possible. :)
INSTANT EDIT - too quick off the mark there :? - games just called off at :
Bracknell v Thatcham - problems with electrics not weather related.
New College v Lydney (@ Swindon S'marine)
53 Hartley Wintney 3-1 Windsor - att 146. 'The Row' were three up by the time Dunbar grabbed the visitors late consolation. Both sides had a player sent off for a tussle late on - which continued as they left the field. Reportedly Samuel on loan to Windsor from Molesey, had been walking a disciplinary tightrope for much of the game. Though admittedly I've only glanced at HW's version of events so far.
Brackley Town 2-3 Stalybridge Celtic
Sunday
Hayes & Yeading Utd 2-2 Truro City att: 293 - fair number of hardy souls making the 260-odd mile trip up from deepest Kernow. Not sure why they were displaying an Ossett Town Flag though?
-- was at York Rd for this - very chilly but had lots of extra layers on to combat the low temperature - trouble was I found the turnstile at York Rd a bit of a squeeze :D
H&Y took the game to their Cornish visitors from the off and led 2-0 before he break. Loanee from Barnsley - Omari Alexander-Salmon looked very useful - grabbed the first goal and was heavily involved in the build up to the second: - driven in by another loanee (Matt Jay) from Exeter- not sure if they then sat back or were pushed there but eventually pressure told and The White Tigers grabbed a goal back late on.
- Dan Lincoln had been inspired between the sticks for Hayes but was eventually beaten by a clever cross shot by ex-Grecian and FGR man Les Afful. Hosts (technically lodgers of course) tried to fight their way further ahead but Truro continued to press too and equalised with a thundering header in the last minute - to make it 11 games unbeaten.
Jason Bristow FINALLY steps down from the hot seat at Basingstoke. Losing those 2 Reading loanee's has made a massive difference to the team. League season appalling.
Into the hot seat and the saviours is our very own.....
MICHAEL GILKES
Great escape is on!
Winchester City 0-0 Tiverton Town
I went to this. before the game, Winch had scored an average of 3 goals per game, and Tivvy about 1.5, so it was always going to be a 0-0.
Tough game between two evenly matched sides to be fair. Tivvy had better chances, but a draw was the right result. Winch had a star winger sent off 10 mins before time which will cost us going forward, Next week is away at Bridgwater Town who we stuffed 7-2 on the first day of the season, and now they are second bottom only to the embarrassing Bashley, so hopefully 3 points tomorrow. You Citizens.
Flackwell Heath 2-0 Oxford City Nomads
Highmoor-Ibis 0-1 Thame United - things not panning out too well for Reading's other 'senior' NL club (see below re RTFC plight) another poor loss - albeit to a rival club - and their Reserves couldn't raise a side for their TVL-P game at IBIS yesterday - reportedly no-one saw fit to inform visitors nor the official who had turned up.
Reading Town 0-11 {ELEVEN} Penn & Tylers Green
...was at this - RTFC actually held out for about 30' against league leaders. Finally conceded to a clever run down the goaline and chip over to a far-post volley - floodgates creaked open 0-4 at the break. Blew asunder completely 2nd half as P&TG forwards waltzed through a decidedly low quality and disinterested back line.
Stand-in Town keeper tried his best but the club only appear to have ONE keeper signed on and he's on loan from Highmoor/IBIS and got himself a lengthy ban for shoving over a Ref's assistant in a 0-6 loss at Bicester late last month.
Lots of other things badly awry at the club - as well as unsuitable floodlights necessitating an early KO (14:00) - they did come on with about 5' left :?
- Manager currently not attending matches (recovering from minor op)
- appeared to be only ONE match ball available
- temporary chairperson (Chief Exec - lady) manning the turnstiles and the bar and doing a sterling job under the circs.
- paying crowd of only 7 - though my headcount made it nearer 20 by H/T - probably league officials and P&TG members.
SOUTHP
Cirencester Town 2-3 Hungerford Town
- Was at this – I'd like to think I witnessed another Bobby Wilkinson tactical ‘master class’ 8) ; as the ‘Crusaders’ manager appeared to effect changes off the bench and in formation, late in the 2nd half in a game that was drifting away from them. Managed to overcome strong opponents and an even stronger gale at the Corinium - turning around a 2-1 deficit with about 10’ to go.
This is not the first time I've surmised that they may have a lot more about them 'off the pitch', which regularly contributes to their relative success on it - for what is essentially quite a small club.
Slough Town 2-2 St Neots Town - Rebels twice behind – Mpi with leveller on 73’
Sandhurst Town 0-3 Worcester Park
HELLP
Ardley United 0-0 Thatcham Town
Binfield 1-4 Highworth Town - poor outcome vs ‘Worthians’ who leap up to 3rd behind Kiddy and Flackwell. Reportedly been quite an exodus recently from the Moles with a fair number of the squad moving down to Larges Lane to re-join former Moles manager Mark Tallentire.
Kidlington 3-1 Brackley Town Saints - home side take advantage of Flackwell’s involvement in the Cup yesterday to grab back top-spot.
Oxford City Nomads 2-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook - good result for slowly improving Sumas but a daunting trip to the 'Yellamen' beckons on Tuesday evening - weather permitting
Royal Wootton Bassett 2-0 Thame United
- on the face of it a better performance from H/I than of late but Heathens go through to the last 16 – the two meet again tomorrow night (Mon 7th) at Palmer Park , where Flackwell will have the chance to retake first place from Kiddy – at least until Wed night when Kiddy are due to go to RWBT.
Four Of Clubs NL results from this w/e:
Saturday 5th December
Winchester City 2-0 Wantage Town
Reluctant as I am to grumble given FoCs excellent work, this was actually 3-0 to Winch, in the King Alfred derby.
Comfortable enough win to keep us second. The Freds were down to 10 men after 20 mins and City should have scored more, trying to pass the ball into the net when a quick shot was the better option. Winchester have a couple of tough games now - away at Taunton then home to Evesham who are on form at the moment.
Great comeback from Windsor tonight - 2-0 down to 3rd placed Horley Town in the 2nd half to win 3-2.
Up to 8th in the table. Don't think we will go any higher but there was a real spirit about them today which was good to watch.
...bit of a :oops: :oops: :oops: about the Winch vs Freds score above - must have glanced at the result below Nor Lye's when compiling (that was 2-0 but Supermarine vs Wimborne) - glad to see someone's on the ball. :)
Been out to two Hellenic Prem games so far this week - trying to take in how the top of the table contenders were looking:
... saw Flackwell ease past Highmoor/IBIS 2-0 at Palmer Pk on Monday night and take over 1st place from Kiddy.
- H/I strangely muted on the field - seem to have lost some of their edge recently - particularly blunt in attack - could also be why they've gone on an unprecedented, of late, run of eight straight defeats since the end of October.
... tonight (Tue) was down at the Waterside and saw a similarly one-sided match between 5th and 3rd - Thatcham just had far too much for a disappointing Highworth - 'Kingfishers' only move up one place though, as Ascot battered the poor Sumas 6-0 at the Racecourse to go 2nd.
Steve Claridge was at the Thatcham game - leaving well before the end doubtless fairly unconcerned about his club's (Salisbury) opposition (Highworth) this coming w/e in the Vase.
Seriously considering a midweek hat-trick and going for Kidlington's game at Royal Wootton Bassett's new ground tomorrow night (Wed) 8)
Elsewhere in the Hellenic there were wins for Binfield, Bracknell and Milton.
In the CCL Premier - Hartley's home match v Chertsey was postponed - waterlogged .... and more worryingly Cove failed to raise a side for their somewhat daunting trek over to Chipstead to play Epson & Ewell - not sure that's their first 'offence' this season either! :? :(
Diddy registered another comfortable win in SOUTH1-S&W over lowly Bridgwater 3-0 at the Loop
- Bashley were walloped 0-5 by Taunton and now have exceeded 100 goals against
- Marlow got a point at Evesham.
Didcot Town Didcot Town Joint Managers Jamie Heapy and Ian Concannon have decided to step down.
“Didcot Town FC would like to extend an enormous thank you to both Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy for their tremendous commitment to the Club during their tenure at the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium. They have taken DTFC to new heights in their two years in senior management and I’m sure that this decision was not taken lightly by either Ian or Jamie. All at Didcot Town FC wish them both the best in their new ventures wherever that takes them, but they leave with the knowledge that they will both be welcome back at any time.
In their place, Andy Ballard will take over in a Caretaker role, assisted in the short term by Andy Sinnott. We wish Andy Ballard all the best in this challenging development in his career, and would like to commend Andy Sinnot for his ongoing support for DTFC during this transitional period.
We all look forward to the continued support from our very enthusiastic and valued supporters, in the hope that our push up the league table continues.”
