Wolfsburg beats Gent 3-2 in Champions League last-16 first leg

Wolfsburg led 3-0 and almost made it four, but Gent woke up in the final 10 minutes, scoring twice to keep the tie alive before next month’s second leg in Germany

Two late goals dragged Gent back from the brink in an enthralling Champions League last-16 tie against Wolfsburg.

The impressive Julian Draxler started and finished a rapid counter-attack to break the deadlock.

Agree on this. Most of the players are Prem rejects.

PSG are no push overs but i do think Man City's attacking threat could cause them problems

PSG are a very attacking team too so we could see lots of goals i reckon

Shame for Citeh that the tie has twice as many legs of Vincent Kompany.

A bit embarassed for Marcelo. Kicks out at a Wolfsburg player, and then feigns injury. Dear me.
This won't stop until the likes of this are met with a ban.

Agreed. It's truly embarrassing. Same for clear diving.

Pique: Champions League 'most important competition' for Barcelona

Gerard Pique has urged Barcelona to move on from their 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad and focus on their midweek clash with Atletico Madrid, calling the Champions League "the most important competition".

Saturday's defeat plunged the La Liga title race wide open, with the champions' defeat at Anoeta allowing Diego Simeone's men to cut the gap at the top of the table to only three points.

A brilliant defensive performance from Athletico Madrid last night and isn't Godin the best central defender in world football?
I love Barcelona ,especially seeing them having to work at it rather than stroll, but last night Athletico were just too well organised with every defender totally committed.
I hope our defenders at RFC watched the game and realised that their half-hearted approach to defending will get them nowhere but total dedication and application could get them higher than a mid-table position in the second tier of our football.
Also everybody works their socks off at Athletico, as they do at most of the top clubs, but of course they do more than just run around a lot.

With the Champions League it is such a shame that we have those ridiculous group stages when all we want to see is the top clubs playing each other-I do wish it was still a proper cup knockout competition.
