6ft Kerplunk
Snowball This, or something like it, is inevitable. What matters is we protect the pyramid, try to increase the trickle-down. This is supposed to be bringing in BILLIONS. 10% of that would help a lot of clubs lower down.

Your faith in trickle-down economics is far greater than mine will ever be. You're going to trust the owners of the richest clubs in the world, whose current finances mean they're wanting to form the ESL to get more money for themselves, to do the decent thing and give a load of money away. Good luck with that.

Of course they wouldn't. It would only happen if say AFC Wimbledon become Chelsea 2 or something like they do in Spain

Lower league clubs wouldn't exist.

It's the unpredictability that makes people keep coming back.
If it becomes too predictable the interest wanes.

However PL chairman (particularly the one who is quoted as saying that 'We don't want another Leicester City') don't seem to understand that.

Separately, how are the 'big' teams currently in smaller ponds going to feel about being small fry in the bigger pond when only a small handful of the 20 win every year. I'm convinced that every one of them thinks it won't happen to them.
It must be difficult to breathe with your head so far in the sand on that one

TBF that is hardly going to be a concern for Arsenal or Spurs.

I just wonder what happens in 20 years time when the Super League gets boring and predictable. Are we going to to see 10 clubs jettisoned? Is the logical conclusion that in 100 years time we have an Extra Super Duper Fabdabidozy League league with just Real and Barca giving each other a metaphorical reach around every week in a biosphere on Mars to a fanbase of a billion Chinese and Indian subscribers on YouTube?

not reading all this thread, but is anyone defending this putative move (Nobber or "famous" person)?

If not, I'd add a different opinion, just to say that Sky/ the Premier League/Champions League are threatened with being beaten at their own game and I feel no sympathy for them.

But I am against the Super league, of course. Unless Reading get in.

They're definitely being beaten at their own game, its just the closed shop element of it that irks me. Not much else to be honest.

If you keep it closed, then you remove what everything below you competes for. And makes it an appalling sporting spectal in itself.

To be fair we've won the Champions League/European Cup the same number of times as Arsenal and Spurs combined, so why shouldn't we be in the elite group as well? We could have the "Royal Derby" twice a year with Real Madrid .....

Big protest going on outside Stamford Bridge right now.

Petr Cech out there begging the protesters to "let the bus in".

I really don`t believe the owners could have understood the outrage on this that is off the scale. I think it will fold. but after that how do you view the teams that signed up to it?

Maybe Barca and Real can form a n ESL for themselves and play each other 20 times a season.

According to Perez it's the only important game anyway
