NathStPaul Quite fancy York to kick on next season. Reasonably well funded aren't they?

Quite a turn around for York. I saw them twice early in the season, and they were garbage, being thrashed 0-4 at Gloucester, then losing 1-2 at home to Brackley.

Covered this earlier in the thread but it's still galling that a team finishing SO far behind first and second goes up instead of second place. Play offs eh.

York may kick on with investment but a promotion after picking up just 66 points is not a strong base to build from. They lost a third of their games at the lower level this year. Boston, who they beat, finished even lower though

They are a bit of a "name" though. You can see them having the pick of the better OOC National League talent, could pick up a couple of League 2 players too you'd think. It is quite common for players to drop out of League 2 in favour of the National League these days, don't get that myself.

I went to Boston's new place (not bad, really) at the start of the year. They were about 7th, but lost and sacked their manager a week later.

Says a lot for a Brackley and Fylde who both screwed up in their play off semis despite home advantage.

It says that anything can happen in a one off play off game.

Hmmm,

I love the whole Play-off ethos, but when a team has won a sixth of a season worth more games, than the team that ‘beat them on the day’ to gain promotion, you have to wonder ‘is that good value for the rest of the leagues and the tournament itself?
So much can go wrong on that day (sometimes outside of a clubs fault).

York can go forth and try to resume their League status credentials…they were still not (nor never will be) the second best team in their league last season (21 points behind the team that was)

A little more tweaking still needs to made maybe?

I think you are right.
When it comes to say 1 automatic plus one through the play-offs I always think that the best way is where the team coming second (to reflect their finishing position) has a bye to the final and 3,4,5 &6 fight it out between them to get to the final.

In the Italian Serie B, if the 3rd placed team finishes 10 or more points ahead of the 4th placed team then they just go up automatically and there are no play offs.

at least the fans are backing their manager.

Colchester aside, Parky is not a successful manager…damaged goods.

Can we not hire him as a motivational speaker or something?

He had a modicum of success at Bradford and the fans loved him whilst they were winning but similar gripes that the Wrexham fans have were never far from the surface.

Ironically, the only time I've ever been remotely ITK about anything in football was the time when Parky was at Bradford and Mark Lawn's locksmith company was one of the suppliers to the company I worked for. I used to talk to him and Graham Jones on an almost daily basis. Their company's "head office" was a couple of unsold executive boxes at Valley Parade. I did my speed awareness course in the function room at Valley Parade.

It was Graham Jones who told me that we never made an approach for Parky after sacking Adkins or Clarke. Apparently Madejski told Jones that if Parky wanted the job, they would welcome his application.

Actually getting quite behind the Moors at the moment, always better to gave a new name in the league. Should be game worth watching I reckon, better then than the usual premier and league clubs.

+1

Haven't really ever heard of them but reading about them, seem like a good little team

Would be a good new team along with Sutton, Barrow , Harrogate and FGR in recent years

Also proves how hard that league is where teams like Chesterfield, Southend and Barnet struggle to go up

I wonder how secure Parky's tenure is after Wrexham spaffed six-figure transfer fees and still failed. They are shockingly reliant on Ben Tozer's long throws. Both defences were like pub teams.

I would imagine he is in a spot of bother.

I take a lot of interest in Eastleigh for a variety of reasons. Baffles me that it was agreed to allow that their first choice goalkeeper to go on loan to Solihull just for the play offs. Thats random.

Presumably they have the same rule as the EFL where if the most experienced keeper you can call on has fewer than [insert figure] career appearances, you can bring in an emergency loan.

Bristol Rovers were promoted on goals scored after putting four past a keeper playing for Rochdale on that basis in their last but one game.

Windsor manager resigns after finally steadying the ship on the pitch.

It's been sunk again now. The farce continues
