Winston Biscuit The Arnault family have publicly confirmed they are now in exclusive negotiations .

:x not my favourite phrase these past few weeks.

Arnault is France's richest man (in the world even iirc). If he has any spare change, would he be interested in an EFL Division 1 club in a particularly attractive town? I'd be willing to broker the deal/be the interpreter/ show them around the Oracle/Purple Turtle etc.

Bordeaux get their 2nd win of the season down in the 4th tier. They are now out of the relegation zone and up to 10th place out of 16, and they have 2 games in hand

problem for them is that only the winner goes up and there are no play offs. They are 11 points off of top spot, and only 1 point ahead of the relegation zone

Last week, Barney Ronay said that England would be better off if Harry Kane retired from international football.

Lol.

His 6th Bundesliga hat-trick puts him 7th all-time on that list, after only 15 months in the league.

Gerd Muller maybe has one of football's unbreakable records there - he scored 32 hat-tricks in the German top division.

yeah I heard him say that. People suggesting we get rid of Kane from the england team are being odd. He is probably our best player, is our highest ever goalscorer, is one of the best 2 or 3 strikers in the world, is still in his prime, but because he struggled in 1 tournament (as did the rest of the team) there is a mentality among those that always want to be seen to have strong decisive opinions, that he needs to retire. which is obv mental.

People also love to pontific8 on long term things about international football, which I also find odd. The England managers job is to win the next game, so just pick who is best at that moment to win that game, then do the next when the next fixture comes around.

The whole 'well do you really want him playing now only to not get picked in the world cup squad as he is too old by then?' blows my mind. yes, yes I do want that to happen, because you pick who wins the games now, then if he is too old/rubbish when WC2026 comes around you pick whoever is good at the time.

International football is way less about long term thinking than club football is, but people always seem to pretend otherwise.

Swedish women's 4th division.

Unbeaten all season, didn't even concede 1 goal, still didn't win the league

Maybe if he doesn't fit into Tommy Tickles' system then I could see why you'd drop him i.e. Watkins to create space or whatevs

Could make a case that dropping gr8 players (Shearer at Newcastle, Stevie G etc) may have led to teams doing better

Have seen this bandied about a few times over the last couple of days.

There must be some absolute bonkers games in that league though - for only 18 games the bottom four on average concede 5, 4, 5 and almost 7. The top 4 are scoring the opposite of that: almost 7, 4, 4 and 4. Even the teams in the middle of the league are averaging scoring/conceding 3 a game.

Not Europe but MLS - Christian Benteke was top scorer in the regular season with 23 goals for DC United. What amazes me is that Christian Benteke is only 33 years old, and I can't make sense of that at all.

He’s been over there since leaving Palace in 2022 (he’d have been 31 then) presumably it’s the usual case of money being more than he’d get here and he without so much of the pressure.

in August, Winston Biscuit La Liga reportedly looking at moving December's Barca Vs Atletico game to Miami

Request now gone into FIFA from La Liga for this.

If it happens then it would be the last La Liga game played before the winter break, then the 2 teams would resume in january by going off to Saudi Arabia to play in the expanded Super Cup

I think I thought he was 30 at Liverpool, when in fact he joined them at 24.

Copa Libertadores semi final 1st leg.

Last night Atletico Mineiro beat River Plate 3-0

Tonight surprise package Penarol from Uruguay play away to Brazilian league leaders Botafogo. Loads of fighting today in Rio between the fans (with hoolies from Flamengo also coming out to join in). Really looks like some crazy scenes with bars and businesses getting smashed up, and now a coach has been set on fire. Police steaming in with batons, as you would expect.

Irony alert!!!!! A story I spotted in the New York Post. Anyway here's a link to the original story in Marca.

https://www.marca.com/futbol/futbol-femenino/2024/10/22/europa-defiende-combatir-delitos-odio-violencia-transfoba-deber-colectivo.html

A team in the Catalonian Women's League has been castigated for fielding 2 trans men.

The two players in question are not allowed to play in men's football because they have not fully transitioned and are classed as female on their ID cards.

Basically it seems that a trans woman shouldn't compete in women's sport because she's a man and a trans man shouldn't compete in women's sport because he's a man.

Have their fans turned on the players, the management or the owners yet?

Mbappe. He hasn't been what they hoped since he joined and last night was apparently pretty awful, was being caught easily offside over and over, and was then throwing his hands up as if others were the frustration.

In all their 12 league matches up to last night, Real Madrid had been caught offside a total of 12 times. Mbappe was offside 8 times on his own last night.

They have swapped a successful hard working attack, for a 'luxury' player who doesn't track back, and the rest of the attacking players now have to spend time doing his running for him

Ouch! Never good in a Latin team. And they can’t move him on as no one can afford him. Hoping they let Bellingham take the blame and they move him on to the PL instead
