From Despair To Where? The provisio in Scotland is always do clubs outside the Old Firm have the squad depth to maintain a challenge? Aberdeen have an excellent manager and a decent, well organised squad but I think Celtic will eventually pull away because the have the quality and the depth.

I can see Aberdeen splitting Celtic and Rangers because Rangers look so ponderous and just don't have the money to make significant changes.

They're a bit of a shambles on and off the field at the moment. Their squad is significantly worse than 2 years ago, they're lost more money last year than most of the SPL have as an annual budget and the SFA have just pulled their pants down to the tune of £700k to borrow Hampden for 3 games.

You would think Rangers, having gone bust once, would want to run the club in such a way that the chances of it happening again are slim to none - but apparently not.

I think one of their big problems is that they're in a constant race to catch Celtic, who are fuelled by regular CL money, and whoever is in charge of recruitment is a fcuking idiot.

I think the big issue is Rangers are attempting to compete financially with Celtic, who have Champions League money most seasons. Rangers have also failed to sell players at their peaks and adequately replace players they have sold - they rejected a £15-20m bid for Alfredo Morelos for example.

Realistically, they'll need to use their youth system and be willing to sell players when big bids come in to have any chance of competing financially.

Yeah, Rangers don't buy very well but they're even worse at selling players.

Celtic on the other hand sell Jota and O'Reilly for £51m (£43m profit) and buy a completely new midfield with about £20m to spare. (They overpaid for Idah though, imo)

It's all cyclical really. Back in the 90s when Rangers were winning everything, Celtic were an absolute shambles off the pitch.

Oh get it's cyclical and understand the pressure there must be for Rangers to compete with Celtic, but just mildly surprised (well not really) that the current owners of the club would be prepared to lose so much money when the club have already gone bust once. Maybe they enjoyed the climb back up the leagues a little bit too much.

The rivalry is all consuming and rational doesn't really come into it. No one will be given 2 years to get things right if it means trailing behind Celtic.

Rangers getting dumped down the leagues has just opened a financial chasm between the 2. The new CL format will also help Celtic massively.

I genuinely dislike both but it's impossible to argue in purely football terms that Celtic aren't currently streets ahead of Rangers both on and off the field. Better run, better players and play better football.

When one dominates, it's usually as much about the other being an utter shambles.

Another ironic thing is, despite being in the Champions League, Celtic arguably have easier remaining European fixtures than Rangers in the Europa League.
