I suspect Mark Chapman will secure promotion from Div 2 MoTD up to top flight MoTD

Brogue Lineker to leave motd at the end of the season. And the bbc altogether after the 2026 world cup

Doesn't middle age pass you by quick? (He says, entering middle age).

Lineker was 38 when he took the job on Match of the Day. 63 now, he's done 25 years in the role.

Jimmy Hill, Bob Wilson and Gary Lineker as ex-players have provided over 50 years service as lead presenters on BBC Sport.

Who are the top candidates to step into their shoes?

The number of media roles have increased stratospherically for ex-players in the last 25 years but I can’t think of a single one capable of filling the role.

I suppose Jenas was being groomed for the role but that seems unlikely now. I must be missing someone.

If there isn’t one I guess I’d go for Jason Mohammad - he’s likeable and smooth enough.

Yeah, not sure there is one.

In terms of presenting experience and as a steady hand, Gabby Logan might be in the running, and at least has an indirect connection to the sport. To the BBC what Kelly Dalglish (also excellent) is to Sky Sports.

Seems the most logical suggestion.

It does seem odd that in the days when there was almost no media training for players, 3 stellar presenters popped up yet now that every man and his dog involved in the game gets media trained there's nobody good enough to take on the role.

Maybe that early training knocks the essential element of spontaneity and naturalness out of them and they all become too robotically similar in their approach and responses.

Oh well, Chappers would be ok, but I prefer Mohammad as a presenter personally.

(Mind you, I suppose it has to be acknowledged that Wilson and Lineker were very stilted and stiff when they started.)

Pepe the Horseman Laura Woods

I used to really like her but she's really unpleasant on Twitter and her opinions are just a bit extreme

Sure this has been mentioned before, but Peter Drury can feck right off. I am sick of him covering the big game every Sunday.

He absolutely screams the players name everytime they have a chance at goal. Anyone that hasn't heard him probably thinks "Of course he does that, it's a key moment" - but it's not, it's artificial and really over-the-top.

I think she was ok in small doses, then got really annoying when she was everywhere all at once.

WRTTOP Alex Aljoe is great. If you haven't seen it, here's a clip of her interviewing Luis Diaz and translating as she goes.

A real case of being careful what you wish for to all those who celebrated martin Tyler's retirement

Having said that at least he's not Sam Matterface

Wonder what his ancient relatives did to end up with that surname

best choice would be Gabby Logan. Knows her stuff and is attractive.

If not, Matt Le Tissier. For the memes.
