Hendo
And yes, I grew up in the 90s and played right midfield as a kid. Of course Beckham was my idol.

And not without reason. One of the best free-kick takers in the world of his generation, and I was argue the best passer of the football in that same era, especially over distance, only TAA now getting close.

Royal Rother Slapped down at every turn yet still Vic tries to find an argument over whether Beckham was a ”great” which wasn’t even suggested. And then has the nerve to suggest the poster who has slapped him down is just a young hero-worshipping whippersnapper with no long-term knowledge of the game..

Classic Vic!

:D :D
I didn't suggest Hendo said that Beckham was a great ,I just get fed up with people assuming that just because his family appears daily in the media (fantastic managerial promotion btw) he must have been something special as a footballer.
He wasn't, but got photographed a lot, especially when somebody else like Michael Owen scored a goal for England.

I wouldn't suggest that Hendo has no knowledge of the game but, as he has posted, he was a victim of his parents buying in to the hype when he was , as you have called him, "A young hero-worshipping whippersnapper"

He can't help having been corrupted and led astray-my son is named Ian after Ian St John :D .

I do confess to being blinkered about players connected to Man Utd apart from the great trio of Best, Law and Charlton who could all pass a ball, take free-kicks and do so, so much more.

Vic, you were the one who bought Beckham into the conversation when talking about stars of Real Madrid and claimed he didn't start that many games, and I proved you wrong as he started 90% of the games he was available for them.

No one has said anything else or claimed to say anything else. You're just being a bit weird.

I wonder where Steven Gerrard fits in on Vic's greatness scale.

Above Beckham or below?

Vic is that certain type of person (we all know lots of them) who is totally unable to hold an objective conversation about something that they don't 'like'. It's the 'STG' effect.

I don't 'like' Cristiano Ronaldo. The preening, the tantrums, the stupid free kick process. But I can see that he is one of the greatest players that ever lived.

Pretty sure Danny Guthrie is higher than Beckham on Vic's list.

I agree with you so that puts paid to your argument straight away.
I have no feelings about Beckham as a person as I don't know him and I never rated him that much as a footballer.

That is an opinion and with opinions there is no absolute right or wrong unless you are GOD which you and Ian regularly seem to be (in your own minds).
You and he are just "that sort of person) to use your phrase although God being a person or not is another matter altogether.

Problem you have here is that I regularly highlight how much I get wrong.

One had 62 goals (2 penalties) and 80 assists in 265 Premier League games.

The other had 120 goals (32 penalties) and 92 assists in 504 Premier League games.

Yeah, this has always bemused me with Vic. I live in Merseyside, know a lot of Liverpool fans, a fair few being season ticket holders and none of them are anywhere near as blinkered as him with regards to Liverpool or any other team in the Premier League.
