Silver Fox Dreadful performance tbf, not sure what the reason was, they looked incredibly tired which is nonsense for professional footballers as ever even if they had to play on Tuesday. You could argue that the kids in last year's final were more effective, maybe should have started some youth? Having said that, well done Newcastle, apparently I heard somewhere that they hadn't won anything for 70 years, mental if true!

Yeah, really odd performance from Liverpool. As you say, zero energy - at least until Elliott and Chiesa came on and injected some actual pace into things.

One of the only times this season too that Slot apparently came up short tactically. Liverpool were intent on piling crosses into the Newcastle box, almost all of which landed on the head of 8ft 2ins Dan Burn, because of course. Newcastle set up wide and it seemed to stifle Liverpool's creativity.

All credit to Newcastle, great to see the celebrations, a club that is surely impossible to dislike.

And to Burn, a player who was at Wigan aged 28, and wasn't particularly 'rated' even after he moved to Brighton. Last few years have been the best of his career.

Feels like we see fewer and fewer set-piece headers from centre-backs, these days - was a terrific finish. Seemed like a Bruce or Pallister or Ruddock or Adams would bury one of those every other weekend.

What a time to be alive! Will enjoy it until we're 3-0 down at Ipswich

One in the eye for the increasingly vocal RFC bin dippers.

Forgot they were out of the CL. The 'onedruple' is still on tbf

Domestically yes but they won the Fairs Cup in 1969.

Ironically, their opponents got easier by the round.

QF Vitoria Setubal

Never mind, perhaps next season they can battle United for the zerodruple.

Just looking at some of the summer rumours; ManU after Gyokeres, Arsenal after Isak, Liverpool after Delap

Delap is the value.

Isak would (as I’ve been saying for years) be a perfect fit for Arsenal but they missed the boat and won’t be paying £150m for him.

Yeah, interested in Isak's mindset. Quite clearly capable of playing for Europe's biggest clubs, but Newcastle will probably price him out of a move. Newcastle making the CL might be the difference between him staying, and the asking price coming down.

I do wonder if working as a scout at Liverpool is a pretty thankless job.

'So, we've identified a player th....'
'How much?'
'Well, he has scored Champi...'
'No.'
'Okay, how about...'
*turns to page 3. 'Burton Albion, you say? Potential?'

Edit: it is, on balance, worth noting that Liverpool built one of the PL's best ever forward lines of Salah, Mane and Firmino, by raiding the 'second tier, not very expensive, other clubs have reservations' market. So maybe Delap is a very Liverpool signing.

It really started with signing Coutinho for £8.5m.

It does make sense though, you're spending less on players they're hitting their prime with you and you can generally move them on for a profit if it doesn't work out.
