What the hell is Kevin Nolan playing at? He's been newcastle's best player over the last few years, when I heard he was leaving I expected it to be for a top 6 team or someone ahead of newcastle. He's having a medical at west ham....is this some sort of prank? Next we'll see Shane Long moving to league one.

The reported fee for Nolan is £4M....

....didn't Newcastle pocket £35m in Jan for Caroll, so its not like they need the money is it? Implies to me that Pards has got dressing-room issues up at St James' Park.

But back to the transfer; £4M, plus reported wages of £55k a week, plus hefty signing on fee (assume £1M) - thats nearly half of West Ham's first parachute payment gone on a single player!!

Add to that bringing in the lad from Stoke (on a free so again, wages and signing on fee would be large imho), and West Ham appear to have forgotton that they aren't a Premiership team anymore!

Isn't Nolan out of contract next year though, he wont sign a new deal so i can see why Newcastle want to cash in on him.

As for West Ham - they are banking on returning to the Premiership first go, especially with the new stadium coming after the 2012 Olympics.........plus the owners HAVE to prove they are serious about the club

Don't West Ham also have a legal battle to face with Orient and Spurs over actually getting ownership of the Olympic stadium in 2013?

Remember they will almost certainly lose Parker, so i guess his fee/wage will free it up for Nolan

From looking at a couple of Newcastle fan sites there seems to be no unhappiness at Nolan leaving. From what I can gather his demands for an improved contract were seen to be causing a few issues at Newcastle (lots of comments like 'good riddance, no one should be allowed to get above their station like that' etc etc) and there seems to be a general feeling that as soon as Ben Arfa is fit Nolan would be on the bench anyway.
