Eastleigh sack Lee Bradbury before Saturday, Jason Bristow goes back in charge and they deliver with a win. Jason will never take that job on full time. Be interesting to see who they go with. Talk of the Cowley brothers going in, but dont think they will afford him and know Cowley was waiting for a top League one plus job.

Is that the Jason Bristow once of Reading youth?

With no rugby there now, I wonder if there's a chance Worcester City could take over?

They'd have to be more viable as a club than Worcester Raiders.

Over 1000 at another Step 5 fixture, when Tunbridge Wells hosted near neighbours Rusthall in what could be the "angry letters to The Times" derby.

...I think some of the real triple-layer fully-encrusted hardcore anoraks on NLM, are posing if this was the highest attendance ever for an Hellenic League fixture. There are some some doubters - though records for this league going back aways are sketchy as best - most of it probably in 'manuscript' on some dusty bookshelves.......

...candidates to have 'busted' that level - possibly in the 50s/60s heydays - and even gone over the 3k have at least been narrowed down to:

Abingdon Town (the Culham Rd ground could have coped but bigger crowds more likely to have been in their Isthmian league days )
Pressed Steel (never 'eard of 'em - presumably based around Cowley - members from 1953-1986)
Witney (in their various guises and grounds) - though the 'Blanketboys' 8) - sorry 'Blanketmen' - did record 3k plus for a Stadium opening Friendly against Chelsea I think - sure I read that somewhere recently??

Foc - was going to mention whether you sorted out your qrc code and pleased you have. Ridiculous facility they have down there for access. Bad enough when my lad has to go on the academy pitches but for a fixture like this even worse. Dread to think what the away fans will make of it. Hoping Basingstoke has a good run in the cup!

...yeah just spotted that on NLM - 'unforeseen circumstances' according to Diddy's tweets/X's

re QR code for Stoneham - not too sure I have fully sorted it out - there is a 'family and friends' option but NONE of the criteria available on the 'drop down' menu suits my mate: so it doesn't really cover 'friends' as such at all ....
- if anything I s'pose I'm closest to being his 'carer' - we certainly aren't partners or anything else in relationship terms !

Would register him independently - but he doesn't have a smart phone - needs a bit of fiddlin' about .... i.e. registering him again on my phone seems a bit too obvious......

...may just have to embrace my feminine side 8) and pick one of the other options

Saturday 2nd September

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round
97 Fri Laverstock & Ford 2-7 {SEVEN} Gosport Borough

44 Barton Rovers 2-1 Milton Keynes Irish
48 Bedford Town 0-0 Walthamstow
49 Hitchin Town 2-1 Welwyn Garden City
50 Hullbridge Sports 0-1 Kettering Town
53 Leighton Town 1-6 Cambridge City – att 727
65 Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Haringey Borough – att 1,716
66 Berkhamsted 5-4 Beckenham Town
67 Walton & Hersham 1-3 Chesham United
69 Eastbourne United 2-1 Epsom & Ewell
70 Redhill 1-0 Herne Bay
72 Hendon 2-3 Margate
74 Hartley Wintney 0-4 Folkestone Invicta
79 Hythe Town 0-2 Hanworth Villa
81 Leatherhead 0-0 Horsham
83 Hayes & Yeading United 2-1 Chertsey Town
84 Flackwell Heath A-A Farnham Town – att 432 Abandoned serious player injury on 64’ – re-sched for Tue
85 Marlow 2-0 A.F.C. Croydon Athletic
86 Binfield 2-2 Northwood
88 Hadley 0-0 Steyning Town
89 Southall 2-2 Beaconsfield Town – replay Tue
91 Ascot United 1-0 Westfield
92 Knaphill 1-0 Hanwell Town - att 237 - STEP05 bt STEP03
93 Harrow Borough 0-2 Bracknell Town
94 A.F.C. Stoneham 5-4 Basingstoke Town
- att 262 – got to this and the crowd actually wasn’t quite as a large I thought it might be –
- concerns about this ‘ere pre-registration malarkey were unfounded – young staff very helpful – as I think I eventually managed to register myself twice on the same account – rather than adding my mate as a ‘relation’ of some kind
– they weren’t too bothered as long as everyone had a QR code by some means or other to get in.
– this is imposed by the (Hampshire) FA & Football Foundation, as a means of establishing the users of the facility and is part of the agreement related to the funding, that AFC Stoneham signed up to when they applied to use the facility. According to the very decent programme - they reportedly get in about 6-8000 users per week.
– and very well-appointed it is too – dozens of full- and small-sized pitches quite a few with lights – just what the home side need. They run well in excess of 100 multi-age sides – close to 2 doz. of which are female - operating under their name.
- might encounter NLS 'grading-issues' as the main pitch is 'open' to the public - e.g. no barriers to anyone watching from outside the fence. No Tannoy either - which might have been useful as there were a raft of subs on both sides.
- as to the game: ‘stoke roared into a relatively untroubled 1-4 lead just after half-time then promptly collapsed, as AFC threw caution out the window and continually ran at & through them. Felt sorry for venerable ‘young’ Strudders’ [Paul Strudley – ex-nearly everywhere locally] in the visiting goal – wouldn’t have welcomed an afternoon like this in his advancing years – as he heads well towards his 40th year. He was more or less the only barrier as the ‘Dragons’ midfield evaporated and the back-four/five were constantly cut-open – was little he could have done about the goals – and that included a missed penalty.
- ‘stoke rallied but far too late - forcing a number of remarkable ‘last-ditch’ blocks and saves in and around the 6 yd box. They’d have not really deserved a replay – so abject were they 2nd half. Clear to see why the ‘Purples’ are one of the Wessex Premier higher scorers in a league full of goals.
...NOTE no obvious 'appearance' of the Basingstoke 'ultras' and their (as alleged on here :? ) - poor behaviour - must be a 'Winklebury' thing?
- lots of swearing and moaning on exit - about their own sides performance late on - and the ref even added over 10' when they were camped in the Stoneham half.
The visiting fans responded pretty much how you'd expect from a side 2 levels higher putting in such an ultimately woeful effort on the day. Though obviously they were content up to half-time.

95 Swindon Supermarine 1-2 Cribbs
96 Okehampton Argyle 1-3 Highworth Town
98 Mousehole 5-3 Bashley
99 A.F.C. Totton 5-1 Sholing
100 Winchester City 3-2 Evesham United – att 322 - very late winner for City
101 Poole Town 3-0 Barnstaple Town
102 Horndean 3-0 Bideford
103 Hungerford Town 4-0 Petersfield Town
105 Reading City 3-1 Shaftesbury – att 264

League
NAT
Aldershot Town 3-4 Chesterfield
Dorking Wanderers 0-0 Eastleigh
Hartlepool United 2-1 Wealdstone
Maidenhead United 0-0 Woking
Solihull Moors 3-3 Oxford City
NATN
Brackley Town 2-0 Warrington Town – att 609 – Saints go top as ‘Scunny’ are held at Alfreton – brace for Danny Newton 2nd half.
South Shields 4-0 Banbury United
NATS
Farnborough 3-1 Hampton & Richmond Borough
Slough Town 2-5 Tonbridge Angels – ‘Rebels’ bottom with only 3 points – Bath head the early table with ‘new boys’ Aveley heading the chasing pack above Worthing and Chelmsford on GD.

SL1-C
North Leigh 2-3 Aylesbury United – game of multiple penalties – ‘Ducks’ led 0-1 following one before half time, went 1-3 up from another pen. in added time – Nor Lye immediately got one back but had missed a spot-kick just before Aylesbury’s 3rd.

IL1-SC
Corinthian-Casuals 2-1 Metropolitan Police
South Park (Reigate) 0-3 Raynes Park Vale RPV top 3 wins from 3
Sutton Common Rovers 2-1 Guernsey
Thatcham Town 0-1 Badshot Lea

CCL-PN
Fri Wokingham & Emmbrook 3-1 Edgware & Kingsbury – att 143
Ardley United 2-1 Rayners Lane
Bedfont Sports 1-2 Holyport - ‘port’s first win

Tooting & Mitcham United 3-4 Alton
CCL-1
Amersham Town 4-0 British Airways - Town storm on and go 6 pts clear at the top– 2 more goals for Tabor
Bagshot 2-2 Westside
Bedfont 3-1 Hillingdon Borough
Eversley & California 3-1 London Samurai Rovers
London Colney 1-0 Windsor – poor result against the team who were bottom before start of play
Molesey 0-1 Woodley United - great result for Utd at recent league leaders – who’d lost their 100% record midweek
Oxhey Jets 5-0 FC Deportivo Galicia
Penn & Tylers Green 2-0 Brook House
Rising Ballers Kensington 0-3 Yateley United
Spartans Youth 0-2 Berks County

HELL- P
Thornbury Town 5-1 Wantage Town – ‘Freds’ sit bottom with no points

HELL-1
Abingdon United P-P Calne Town - called off: more ‘unforeseen circumstances’ :?:
Long Crendon 2-1 Newent Town

SSM-P
Aylesbury Vale Dynamos 0-2 Arlesey Town

WESS-P
Lymington Town 2-3 Andover New Street - first league win this term for ANS at relegated Town – Petersfield promoted with New Street sit bottom with no points but have only played twice …. and last season’s poor starters, Blackfield & Langley, are just above them with 1 point. Baffins are the early leaders but have already played 3 or 4 games more than most.

WESS-1
Alresford Town 5-1 New Milton Town –suspect the New Milton squad of 22/23, that hit well over 100 goals and finished 3rd, must have decamped en masse somewhere nearby - as they are yet to register a point this season and have a GD of -29 already from 7 games.
- In contrast Alresford’s torrid relegation campaign, which yielded only 5 points in total, seems to be well behind them. They are 4th - with 4 wins from 4.

Andover Town 1-3 Folland Sports
Ash United 1-4 Totton & Eling
Frimley Green 0-1 Fleetlands
Newport (IoW) 4-1 Whitchurch United
Ringwood Town 3-2 AFC Aldermaston
Romsey Town 1-3 Cove

...and as a FOOTNOTE (just posted below too  ) Windsor & Eton bt Finchampstead 3-2 at Stag Meadow - att 430. Next up YMCA 9th Sept 14:00h.

Windsor and Eton 3-2 Finchampstead

Crowd 400+.

Good game, W&E 1 down after 15 mins (gifted by defender / keeper confusion), stormed back to lead 3-1 at HT and looked like we had Finch on toast.

2nd half different story, Finch much improved. W&E still had the better chances, with new signing, much travelled Jemal Johnson, missing a couple of decent chances, and woodwork coming to the rescue on 1 occasion.

Finch scored, we didn’t, so ended 3-2.

Entry is FOC this season which certainly helps, but the crowds for Step 7 are quite something. BBQ and Windsor Brewery stands also help I guess.

Looks like being a very enjoyable season - the level of football may be low (Step-wise), but the quality on display is much better than the last few years. Haven’t seen a really poor opponent yet either, so I really can’t see much difference between CCL Prem, and this.

..yeah 'Heathens' game v Farnham now showing on 'X' - league & FA sites as Wed evening - winners host Chesham?

..bit of a shock about ETU too - thought they had a fairly 'vibrant' set up - but my visit there was going back a bit - just checked and it would appear to be 2007 !! :?
= Think I saw them in a season closer - pre-play off decider against someone quite 'big' for that level - probably AFC Wimbledon.....

H-T Beaconsfield 2 Southall 0 - 2 for Buchanan

Cracking 2nd half from the away team- 2 pens to make it 2-2 then the Southall sub on at half time was sent off and deep into injury time they scored a long range winner.

paultheroyal Didcot game tomorrow has been called off. Shrouded in mystery somewhat.

The mystery has been solved- AFC Portchester are thrown out and Didcot play Tadley Calleva on Tuesday 12th September with the winners playing Bristol Manor Farm at home on Saturday 16th September( unless there is a replay)
AFC Portchester have appealed and the hearing is on Tuesday 12th !!!!! It was an ineligible player in the previous round against Wells City, not even the Tadley game !!
Ascot v Lewes FA Cup tie is on Friday 15th September instead of the Saturday.
