.... indeed 8)

....bad PM for Binfield - hammered 7-1 at Chatham in the FA Trophy - stadium being 'borrowed' by Ashford Utd whilst their own 'Homelands' is being re-furbed.

'Moles' defence and midfield played like they'd never met before - in fact they scored the first two goals in their own net to set the 'Nuts and Bolts' on their merry way to 2Q.
In the league and cup so far -if my sums are right - that's 24 conceded in 5 away games now

...sure there must have been nearer options for AUFC to lodge at - just as suitable ..... but further east would have an ongoing issue with traffic problems M20 closures etc or they'd have to go north east across to 'Fannit' and I think Margate have already got a g/sharer for this season? Read the current manager was previously at Chatham so maybe and old pals act - they hope to be back home next month.

Suited me as I'd somehow missed Chatham's ground in my travels - though having been there now - had an uncomfortable but very faint realisation during the PM, that I may actually have been there before : probably for a Kent Messenger Trophy 'non-event' of a game - could be close to 50 years ago!
Pretty sure if I did go there as a 'Teenage Ramsgate Fan' :? ...and it could easily have been one of the other Medway clubs that long ago ...... I recall me and my mates left early 1st half when we clocked that our line-up was kids and reserves and our time would be better spent in one of the (back then) quite lively boozers in the Town....

Royals and Racers Ascot 1 Lewes 2 attendance 451

Fairly decent game, Ascot far too one dimensional though.

Lewes number 8 was class. Big lad but so good on the ball.

Having chosen to miss out on all of the fun at the SCL today  I made my first trip to Rivermoor since the Reading Town days.

Whilst the ground hasn’t changed much, I was very impressed with the game that ensued (which was FA Cup Second Round Qualifying)

Cityzens 1 Winchester City 1
Not enjoyed a live game so much for seemingly years. The entire game was played at high intensity and pace with some great goalkeeping at both ends and some decent committed (sometimes desperate) defending from Reading…that worked.

Winch, (two leagues above Reading) started as you’d expect and dominated the first ten minutes, but Reading settled and gave as good as they got.
Winch went ahead just before 30 minutes, then won a penalty 5 minutes later (which Charlie York saved well).
Second half was end to end stuff, with no drop off of pace and commitment.
Reading equalised five or so after the restart through Tyler D’Cruz and one of Winch’s management staff got sent off in stoppage time.
Slightly bemused by the ref who booked D’Cruz for orbitting the ball (in a tackle) over the stand (the ref) claiming that it was already well over the touchline (it wasn’t), then booking the Reading keeper for time wasting in stoppage time (he had simply placed the ball down to kick it forward…that was all…..and besides, (in the flow of the game, as it was, why waste time? Reading had as much chance of winning the game….and if anything, were on the ascendency anyway).
Decent game, decent beer (Double Barrel) decent sized crowd 3 maybe 4 hundred (too many to count, and at least ten times the numbers since last time I visited.
In the draw for Monday having already got further than any Reading non-leaguers of our modern times. A good day both sides of town :D

…and fair play to the whole set-up, made very welcome and a much better place to visit than it once was.

Will return

Reading City 1-1 Winchester City - att 237

I would suggest that, that crowd figure was very, very much understated (a lot of free-loaders?, a tax dodge?) I thought the days of ‘Roly’s Reading Town were long gone….defo at the very very least 300+

...report on NLM also had an estimate (head-count) closer to 400..... :?

...three FA Cup replays now this midweek for our featured sides, all on Tue night - following Farnborough's blank at Wingate & Finchley this PM.

Farnborough v Wingate & Finchley
Marlow v Horsham
Winchester City v Reading City

....oops  Forgot 'Saints' - perils of being a 'Northern' team I expect 8)

...they (Brackley Town) face Scunny in a replay also on Tuesday ..... night.

Yeah (re. Scunny) the Buxton v Scunny participants have recently been told that they must re-run the entire game (that was abandoned in the 96th minute) last week.

It rained, the ref abandoned, it stopped raining, and the pitch was playable 15 minutes later ftr
Both managers bemused by the total lack of consultation/communication from the ref. (Buxton were a goal to the good when the game was binned off)

P the R what was the right decision?
