John Smith
Winston Smith In fairness some of them, incl Ennis-Hill, would not have to change their stance at all. Their beef was Shef Utd etc being seen to support a convicted rapist which is what he was at the time. If that is overturned and he is found not guilty then it doesn't change that they still tried at the time to support someone who was a convicted rapist.

Others just won't want to be embarrassed publicly so I am sure will go down the 'not guilty does not have to = innocent' route thinking it saves them face.

loads of clubs still wouldn't touch him though

Will Oldham, though? They were mighty close last time. Do you think he might be able to get a Football League club?

yeah I do think someone will reach out to him in the end. It might take a while and I am sure he will get knock backs but in the end someone will take a punt on it, get their media people ready to word the statement correctly and Chedwyn will be back doing what he loves most - kicking a round object about on some grass while thousands and thousands of intoxicated blokes stand really close to him shouting at him that he is deffo still a r@pist.

Yeah, I know you're right really!

I just think the reaction was a bit over the top considering the circumstances and general behaviour of professional footballers and other young men of their age with money to burn. It was a bit of a witch hunt.

I'm not condoning Evans and McDonalds behaviour either, just to be clear.

the public crave a witch hunt though. Reading about other people's poor behavior makes people feel superior and therefore good about themselves.

So Ched wins his appeal and will face a retrial. Judges have blocked the publication of the new evidence that has been used in his appeal, presumably so as not to prejudice it ahead of that retrial.

Can the original co-accused who was acquitted now appear as a witness?

Very interesting, quite a big step.

The public information available at the time made it seem an odd conviction in my eyes, albeit a pretty immoral situation all round.

35 goals in 42 games in his last season.

I wonder if any club would touch him if he was found not guilty

she was unhappy with SU for supporting a convicted r*pist, which he was at the time. the fact he could later have that overturned doesn't change anything in terms of her stance.

the thing she was unhappy with still happened and she can still be unhappy with it

The, and I hesitate to use the phrase, over-reaction to him considering the circumstances of the case was a bit unpleasant though.

If he gets off during the retrail I wonder how much his compensation claim will be worth? He was 22 when accused and with 35 goals in 42 games during his last season his lost of earnings claim could be quite spectacular really.

Who could he sue? The original jury?

The justice system/government, for wrongful imprisonment.

Edit: Apparently, having just Googled it a bit, compensation is capped at £500k and isn't often paid out anyway. That amazes me a bit to be honest.
