apparently he is 'only' on around £30,000 a week at Brentford, and Al-Ahli are offering him £300,000 a week (with no income tax to pay)

The transfer window will close today at 11pm BST for the Premier League, the Football League and in Scotland.

Across Europe, the Bundesliga window will close at 7pm, Ligue 1 10pm and in Serie A and La Liga it is 11pm BST.

He's probably considered the odds against him playing again... (and how to raise them significantly)

Talk of him being offered to Arsenal but there's apparently some issues over wages and him wanting his cake and eating it.

Sanguine Federico Chiesa to Liverpool for €13m + add-ons. An absolute snip, much less than they got from Brentford for Carvalho. No-brainer really. If it comes off and he rediscovers his form pre-injury, it's a brilliant signing. If not, they can probably recoup the fee selling him on again.

Was one of the best players in Europe pre injury, since his comeback he has not looked close to being the same person.

Hope they can get him back to being somewhere near his best

Incredible price though in the end £10m + £2.5m in addons. Just that question mark over his fitness to be proved, unlikely to be involved Sunday.

Chelsea, owned by Todd Boehly's BlueCo, sell Deivid Washington to Strasbourg, owned by Todd Boehly's BlueCo, for a club record £17.7M, having made just 2 Premier League substitute appearances for Chelsea totalling 11 minutes, after they signed him a year ago for £13M

That transfer sums up top level football in 2024

The biggest argument against multi-club models - why follow FFP, when you could just sell unwanted players to yourself?

Football Weekly made a good point yesterday. Ipswich were trying to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea and Chelsea were reportedly willing to send him there on loan if they could include a mandatory £30M transfer fee if Ipswich stay up. But that means Chelsea would have a vested interest in another clubs results at the other end of the table and could even influence that with their performances

Thought the authorities had taken steps to clamp down on this sort of thing after Watford and Man City were
trying it on. Hoping that the PL don't see this transfer at that value when the reckoning come round.

Rumours spiralling that Liverpool are trying to end their pathetic summer business by failing to sign Alan Verela.

Given Chelsea's general form over the last year it'd take some doing to prove their performances might be a little "influenced" this season.

Don't fret-take a look at the squad which has decent cover in all positions and the club took the view that there was no point in buying anybody unless the team were greatly improved.

City have only brought in 2 players, one of which was the returning Gundogan whereas all the others have gone a bit crazy.

One big part of management is keeping players happy and when a number of new players come in it can disrupt matters (e.g. greedy bastard I need to be loved and live in London Sterling going to Arsenal) -there is a lot to be said for a settled squad, especially if that squad is already very good.
