Royals and Racers Brimscombe and Thrupp in a bit of trouble. Manager has gone and no players signed.

A statement this week on the B&T club site (via TwiX) is a bit more positive about their future - mention secured funding.

The departing Manager may have been (haven't tried to checked this - as a fairly common name) 'our very own' Gareth Davies - tall 'Ginge' 8) CB v.late 90s barely 20 apps - wasn't too shabby from vague recollection - bit lightweight maybe?

Fairly sure he was part of the management team at Highworth, 'til quite recently - so may have moved aways into picturesque Glawsecestershire?

Evidently didn't work out for him last season - finished bottom third of Hellenic Prem. - hence the mass departure of him and his support team (& the squad? :? ) pre-season - reportedly all by mutual consent etc.

Saw him playing for someone NL over that way too - early 00s : 'Bassett', Supermarine or Hungerford - Wiki only cites Chipp'num as a later club for him - may have been them?

From his LinkedIn profile, it looks like he's an Elite Coach Educator for FA Wales and based in Cardiff, so may well not be him at B&T.

...he's a Hereford-lad so perhaps the travelling would not have been too burdensome.... not found a definitive yay or nay from the club site and as I wrote above - fairly common name in them there parts: but may well just be me "2+2=5 -ing" ?

Cancelled their midweek friendly vs Cinderford and are only 'hopeful' of staging the one arr. for Sat.

That ruben carvallo kid that Maidenhead have signed from another lower league team I forgot the name off (I want to say enfield or Wingate finchley and he scored 20+ goals last year) looks very very good

Tricky winger who has been around non league game for a few years and is still young but has never seemed to make it pro, even though he easily could (maybe a bad attitude?)

They are 5 games 5 wins and 0 goals conceded In pre season

..glad cba-ness took over there - dodged a blank
Elsewhere on Tue evening, the Hellenic Prem got underway. RWBT were beaten 0-3 by local rivals Fairford. Highworth won 3-1 at Thornbury and relegated/demoted Ciren T. were big losers at Roman Glass, beaten 6-1 - I can only assume they've lost the majority of their STEP04 squad from last season.
Longlevens v Worcs Raiders was abandoned on 93' - power cut with the visitors 1-0 up? :?

Thought about the friendly Binfield vs Cambo but a) it was far too hot to watch football and b) they made a late switch to play it @ Krooner Pk anyway ... :|

Here's the NL programme for this coming w/e : first (Extra Prelim) round of the FA Cup - I posted the draw above somewhere a while back but there's been a few venue, time & date changes - presumably around g/shares an' stuff.

...here we go then Ladies ......

New NL Season and heralding in a 'New' Desktop (2nd hand re-furbed FoCers-style) - so I all being well (Dell) I may be mostly-functional for while yet.....though I would echo some grumbles from elsewhere that the 'explosion' of ads are rather bridling enthusiasm.

...I had been limping along at end of last and thru' this close-season, with an even grottier old iPad, my Phone and the occasional times on my 'nearly-beloveds' :? laptop - enduring interminable petty moaning and grief for daring to clutter her PC ....

Here's the first set of serious w/e results -
Full Cup results/fixtures on:
https://www.thefa.com/competitions/thefacup/qualifying-rounds ...... for those who wish to see the full picture.
They haven't fully cleared last season's competition out of the way yet though, so navigating from the main 'thefa' site is a bit fraught....

As has become common practice over the years, I've kept featured 'local' clubs/leagues - any additions/alterations I'll try and comply with - within reason. (so don't ask for the "Dumfries and Galloway under 7's Floodlit" for example. :P )

Please indulge any errors/omission/lateness etc : I take the results in good faith from the various sources available and a few of these are often at odds with each other. Cross-checking & verifying can take a while - especially if it requires lifting stuff from individual club TwiX accounts. I can't be excused the witless drivel - that's just me! :D

FA Cup Extra-Preliminary
128 Portishead Town 0-1 Easington Sports
129 Tuffley Rovers 0-3 Kidlington
130 Malmesbury Victoria 1-3 Slimbridge
131 Reading City 3-2 Ardley United – att 72
132 Lydney Town 5-1 Thornbury Town
133 Burnham 3-3 Corsham Town
134 Brislington 0-2 Wallingford & Crowmarsh
135 Flackwell Heath 0-1 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos
136 12:30 Binfield 3-1 Wokingham Town –att 310
- - took advantage of the early KO for my first match of a very local 'double':
- well organized as ever by the 'Moles' nice big crowd, plenty of visiting fans but wasn't cramped
- the home side huffed a bit for a while but once in front were comfortable winners over the 'Sumas', now re-re-branded' back to 'Town' but still playing out of Emmbrook.
- 'where is he now?' Mitch Parker has bowled up here for Binfield. Scored one goal - led the line well - as ever '- and ended up in goal as the home keeper was sent of for a 'handled outside the box' offence late on. 'Sumas' grabbed a consolation at the end of the game which would have given their fans some cheer - but I was heading for the car by then .... for match ii)

137 Longlevens 1-1 Winslow United
138 Cinderford Town 1-2 Nailsea & Tickenham
139 Virginia Water 4-2 Brimscombe & Thrupp - @ Arbour Pk Slough att 79
- Match ii) - after getting away from Stubbs Lane (above) in good time - a quick dash NE cross country via Holyport and on to the M4 saw me arrive a good 10 mins before KO. Found plenty of space in the main car park for VW's first match in their new 'borrowed' home - having decamped from Stag Meadow.
- I believe they are being allowed to bring their own 'Timbers' ground up to grading for the Pyramid but not certain of timescales there. Bit odd that this season they have taken a decision to drop their Reserve section
- expected a bit of a goal rout as Brimscomb (as covered a few posts back) have had a pretty traumatic pre-season - losing manager, staff and squad - en masse - and shipping 8 {EIGHT} at home in their first league game in midweek.
- VW raced into a 4 goal lead by early in the 2nd half then very probably eased up, made a few choice subs. They are due to visit Berks Co at Ascot this Tue in CCL-PN (County's FA Cup result permitting this PM)
- B&T had a lot of very young faces, so at least they were quite mobile and were coached as well as they could be from the side but will take a while to 'find their shape' - they battled on and got a couple of morale boosting goals back 2nd half.

140 Ascot United 1-0 Milton United
141 Thame United 3-0 Aylesbury United
142 Oldland Abbotonians 2-4 Amersham Town
143 Highworth Town 0-1 Bishop's Cleeve
144 Roman Glass St. George 2-0 North Leigh
145 Fairford Town 7-0 Cirencester Town
146 Hartpury University 2-0 Risborough Rangers
147 Yate Town 2-0 Holyport
149 Fri 02/08 Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-1 Mangotsfield United - att 220 - according to the FA site this was reportedly played at the Corinium and NOT RWBT
- don't know why - may need to investigate that .... :?

Don't get the stupidity of Friday night games in the FA Cup for sides at this level when there's a distance between the 2 clubs. The Cup can be a big money spinner for these smaller teams, even if it's just winning through a couple of rounds, yet having to play evening games necessitating extra time off work for many and at a time if year when many are taking holidays and doing other family stuff just seems unfair (eg Sheringham 2-1 Woodbridge was around 100 mile and about a 2 hour journey for Woodbridge players).

Royals and Racers Berks County 1 Clevedon 4 today
Fleet Town replay for me on Tuesday evening.

...I was at 'The Racecourse Ground' this (Sunday) PM too ....
- att given as 234 - dreadful debut in the Cup for the 'Swords', two down inside 10 mins and looking as if they'd be steamrollered.
Re-grouped somehow - held up play slightly better in midfield for a spell and grabbed a deserved goal back, thru big lad Hayden, around the half hour mark.
Sadly the contest was more or less over just before H/T, as Town grabbed another running free through a very porous central mid.

No further dramas really - think BC had the stuffing knocked out of them by a very experienced unit - the visitors defended stoutly as required, could have had more on the break .... notched a fourth close to 60'.

So it looks like DAZN are actually launching a brand new National League Channel and you will have to pay extra on top of the normal subscription to receive it. So err, no.

Randomly DAZN have the rights to the EFL here too but to date have absolutely zero games scheduled for broadcast.
