TheMaraudingDog
BR2 Refs, for all their faults,do know the rules of the game.
So Slammed and Dog read what Poll has to say in today's paper.
BTW Dog I like the picture and the clever inference but my point was that we were comparing penalty decisions and not sendings-off-Gomes did not get sent off.

I’ve not read any paper today nor what Poll has to say. I’ve been playing regular 11 a side Sunday League competitive football for 15+years and seen quite a games to boot so I feel I have a decent enough grasp of the rules myself. It was never a foul, nor was Gomez.

For all that Sunday League experience you are (like a lot of pundits)wrong.
To quote Poll (ex-FIFA referee) "When commentators and former players say "He got the ball,it can't be a foul" they are wrong.
Even though Fletcher got a slight touch on the ball,Rosetti felt it was impossible for the Manchester United midfielder to avoid taking his opponent in the follow-through.
Therefore,he had no option but to dismiss the Scot"

None of the Arsenal players appealed either.

If anything, you notice the change of direction the ball takes more after Fletchers touch from this view.

And who shot Fabregas in the back??

The only thing you can say is that the Ref didn't have the advantage of slow-mo replays from different angles. Its different when it happens real time.

All that does is throw open the arguement for video technology again.

Nobody, Fletcher's chopping his left leg at the knee meant he fell over before the sniper could get a clear shot.

We could all learn something about dedication from this man.

There we go, proof!

Remember this gif is slowed down so the ref saw it faster than that too......in fairness to the ref it could look as if Fletcher went for the tackle but Fabregas knocked the ball to the side with his hip/chest - notice how Fabregas slightly turns to the side before the ball appears looking like he touched it, not Fletcher.

It WASN'T a foul BUT you cant blame the ref for giving it.

ALOL @ BR2 / VM

First up it was never a pen against Spurs (which it wasn’t) as Gomez got the ball then Carrick. However, when Fletcher gets the ball then Fabregas it is a pen (which it also wasn’t)

Wow. I've never seen a paragraph with so many spelling mistakes, 'txt speak' abbreviations and the use of $ instead of S's.

Nothing to do with me doggy-I was pointing out what a top referee's view of the situation was-I don't really care because this decision didn't affect the game whereas the Webb decision did.
Fergie didn't do his usual rant over this one and actually praised the ref.

Checked earlier on the proper FA take on the argument here and the terminology they use is that if the challenge is 'wreckless or there is intent' then it is a foul whether the player gets the ball first or not.

Can't say Fletchers comes under either of those!
