Schweinsteiger has been one of the players of the tournament for me. Excellent alround play and really made Germany tick.

^ @ Baines.Of course. However he didn't play so deep in the previous matches because he didn't need to.

Against Australia (and Serbia), he was tucked right back - pretty much patrolling between centre backs and level with the (advanced) wing backs. My hunch is that Ozil got more tightly marked in later games, giving Schweinsteiger, not a bad player, room to move forwards.

Against Spain, all three German centre mids had to tuck back. I'd also imagine that the absence of Mueller meant they didn't have the easy option out.

Various reports of supporters missing this match on Wednesday in Durban because the airport was congested with private planes belonging to the likes of Mick Jagger, Paris Hilton, the Dutch Royal family etc. These planes should have landed and then flown to another local airport to park, but their pilots refused to move away and the airport had to be shut to other arrivals.
