TheMaraudingDog Isn't Cech only 29?

Seems odd to be lining up a replacement for someone who's still got 4-8 years left.

Egxactly.

What an odd thing to say. Perhaps a season of working with "top coaches lol" and then a loan to a top flight club, but to say he's happy developing for 5 years in peace doesn't say much for his motivation.

Aquilani has been shit for Liverpool, but he joined to play in the first team, and when he wasn't playing he asked to leave. So no, not like Aquilani.

qpr currently feeling the rfc treatment. warnock has said he expects to see none of the money received for selling taarabt. the irony of qpr's tight fistedness is that had warnock not won promotion with qpr last season he'd have been out on his ear by now, but now they're there they don't want to invest to stay there.

Chelsea have reached agreement with Barcelona to sign defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed the news at a press conference in Bangkok, where Chelsea are on a pre-season tour.

Personal terms for the 19-year-old - who two first-team appearances for the Catalan club last season - have yet to be agreed.

Confirming the agreement, Villas-Boas said: "He is one of the most promising young players in that position."

What a shame-Chelsea,hopeless at producing their own players so once again they have to go to one of the big clubs for a temporary transfers (Barcelona have the right to buy him back in 2 years' time)
A bit like a lower division club having to get players in on loan.

what an odd arrangement. it's basically a two year loan. if the player is any good then barca will take him back and if he's a load of rubbish then chelsea get to keep him. this right up there with signing a young keeper who is happy to sit on his backside for 5 years to, and i quote "get on with it in peace". what a club!

Surely there is a fee that is agreed upon that is substantially higher than the agreed upon fee? If not then

Barca wont buy him back unless something happens to Sergio Busquets. He plays in the same position and is a similar player but Busquets is only 23 years old. They put that deal in place so they are not fighting to sign someone like they are with Fabregas.

Ahh I knew Victor would be along. We're rubbish at producing players......McEachran, Bertrand, Chalobah, Bruma, Van Aanholt, John Terry etc....not to mention the likes of Scott Sinclair, Jack Cork etc....

I'm not sure on the aspects of the deal though as Chelsea weren't too keen on the buy back deal which Barca seem to be doing with most of their young players. However, if that's the case, he'll play a few games in the next couple of years, but not enough to warrant Barca buying him back.

This the same Bruma and Van Aanholt who looked utterly out of their depth against Long and Kebe last April?

Not forgetting that chelsea poach loads of youngsters from other clubs. Just how many of chelsea's academy is made of of 100% chelsea players? Very few. And this info from a youth team manager at a L2 club. What do chelsea do? Pester the parents of young talented child with offers of home extensions, refitted kitchens and the like just so they can get their paws on a half decent youngster. Face it. chelsea is a club with little or no style or class. Bit like their supporters really.
