Barry the bird boggler But we need a creative attacking midfielder not another striker to whom we'll fail to give any service.

Of course in the perfect world we'd take both.....

Except look at what happened when we had Long. He was capable of creating his own goals out of nowhere by bullying the arse off of defenders. None of our strikers are the pacey skillful kind capable of turning defenders inside out to get a shot away, or chasing them down and forcing them into an error, stealing the ball.

What we need is for another avenue of threat which doesn't rely solely on the wingers or a set piece. Now I don't know anything about Rhodes, but if he could provide that, he'd be just as good a signing as a creative goalscoring midfielder.

Never going to happen

West Ham were told to cough up £14 million, yes £14 million to buy him according to David Gold.

He will be way out of our price bracket this window.

If we did sign him this window it would be for a ridiculously inflated price, and i certainly wouldn't want that.

We are much better off at looking at someone like Jason Roberts, Nicky Maynard who will be much cheaper and will improve our side considerably

A big no for Jason Roberts. But would be very happy with Maynard.

Why though?

He's only 33, not completely past it.

He's big, strong, and quick...would be a decent foil for ALF.

And he's experienced at this level.

Not my ideal signing, but I can certainly see the benefits of bringing him in.

I'd only accept Roberts here if he made a grovelling apology to Kebe in front of the Madejski crowd.

Roberts is not the signing of a club with money and with six goals in three years I repeat, no thank you.

And at 33 he's a stop gap only. We buy young hungry players with room for improvement as a rule, he does not fit the bill.

LOL @ Rhodes for £14m.

LOL @ Long for £20m.

Doesn't mean the player will go for that. Reckon £4-5m will be enough for however stumps up the cash.

We don't know how much we've got now though - do we have £1m, £3m, £5m?

If we can't get a proven striker for what we have now then a player with a track record of goals at this level would do nicely for the next 19 games, then when the deal for the club is complete and we potentially have more money lets see what's out there in the summer and use the money now to strengthen elsewhere.

Much as I would like Rhodes here, he is still a gamble, so any club buying needs to either pay out too much up front, or have a bloody good sell on clause.

Griffin, Harte , Leigertwood, Gorkss and Zurab.

Griffin - ~3 years younger when we signed him and no longer first choice.
Harte - bought as a short term stop gap
Leigertwood - 5 years younger when he signed :|
Gorkss - 4 years younger when he signed :|
Khizanishvili - 5 years younger when he joined us and was a short term stop gap :|

I didn't say we only bought young players and of those only Harte is really comparable. So well done, one example in about 5 years.

I'd suggest that if you're going to try and get clever Platy, you try learning to count mate.
