Franchise FC Weighing up Liverpool or Spurs ??

There is that, BUT he was due to sign for them last week and he delayed the decision a couple of days before Spurs initiated contact. Make of that what you will.

When last week? Spurs are new to the scene and that must have caused the delay.

And he spoke to BM on Tuesday I believe, and BM and AZ on Thursday. Then Spurs came in.

I still don't think we'll get him, but we've certainly given him plenty to think about. There's certainly no questioning Anton's ambitions for us.

Franchise FC
robbieroyal The delay in any response by Gylfi of course is good news.

He is obviously seriously weighing up his options. He therefore must be seriously considering returning.

The more I think about it, the more I think he will be better suited to coming to us.

We'll see.....

Weighing up Liverpool or Spurs ??

Not sure how Spurs would be a better bet for him than Swansea TBF...no manager = no guarantee he'd feature in that managers plans when he's appointed.
Still think it's between us and Liverpool...

We all know what formation BR is likely to play at Liverpool (4-2-3-1, used it under us and Swansea). No disrespect for Gylfi but Liverpool have a vast quantity of players who can play in the hole. If BR only plays one striker it leaves one of either Carroll or Suarez who will be hoping to play in the hole (Suarez played there a few times last season and did well). The clueless, deluded Liverpool fans with their massive inferiority complex will simply not have some "one season wonder" who was not even bought for a ten figure sum in the starting line-up ahead of their God-like Stevie G or their we-spent-tens-of-millions-on-him-so-he-must-be-good Suarez.

One bad performance and the fans will be on BR's back to drop him and Gylfi will never be heard of again as has happened with so many of their players who have failed to perform instantly.

Of course we all know Gylfi will play for a top European side someday, perhaps a move to Liverpool or Tottenham is a year too soon.

FWIW, apart from money, Tottenham won't be anywhere near as attractive to Gylfi as us or Liverpool. It's an 70-30 split as to where he goes at the moment.

I really can't see him turning down a club like Spurs or Liverpool. But just knowing we have offered something like £7m for him and out bid Liverpool in terms of wages, that's enough to give me goosebumps!! The fact that we are prepared to go that far to get proven quality is very exciting.

At the worst: we don't get him, but we expect that.
at the best: the male population of Reading fans will be carrying a lot less semen around with them by the end of next week.

What is actually in Liverpool's favour? It's a massive club, more likely to compete in Europe than us. Rodgers is there. That's really about it if you accept we've offered bigger wages.

Gylfi can earn more here and be guaranteed to start the games. If he's earning more, and playing more, then even if we don't perform well as a club, then he'd surely have to back himself to be in a much better position to go to a club like Liverpool, or even better at the end of the season and as a genuine starter. He has time on his side.

I think he's actually going to sign for us.

Is everyone going mad? Gylfi's Big Time and we're not, even if we are giving it the classless nouveau riche Charlie Big Spuds routine.

From fotbolti.net journo Brynjar (great name!) Ingi Erluson;

@brynjarerlusonGylfi Sigurdsson has returned back to Iceland after meeting with LFC & Reading representatives and will make his decision soon. (Mirror)

@brynjarerluson..Mirror hefur kannski annað slagið rétt fyrir sér? Allir aðrir halda að hann sé í London að skrifa undir pappíra #loadofbullshit (says spurs rumours are bullshit and the Mirror is right for once)

@brynjarerluson@maffff Reading has a chance like LFC. Rodgers is tempting him, but he also loves Reading. Right now he is enjoying tennis in Iceland :)

@brynjarerluson@jamie_maginness @maffff I'm afraid so. Gylfi has no interest at all signing for a club that has no manager. #HisOwnWords (again, on Spurs)

@brynjarerluson@jamie_maginness @maffff I'll update you when i hear more. Both my sources and sources from other Icelandic journalists #TheSig

@brynjarerluson@maffff Reading is at least in the mix. You can expect some big news in coming days. I'll update you with news from Iceland when they come!

@brynjarerluson@maffff That is true! He was playing today or yesterday with a friend from the national team. Expected back to England this week #Gylfi (on playing tennis)

@brynjarerluson@hearn161 @maffff Most people are confident of his move to LFC. Gylfi picks teams by manager, that is what we know #Rodgers (on general feel in Iceland)

@brynjarerluson@hearn161 @maffff That isexactlythe reason why Gylfi's decision is tough. Two of his favourite managers #HardDecision

@brynjarerluson@maffff This is McDermott vs Rodgers battle. Some people say that his support for Man Utd will help his move to Reading. #notruth #HeisAPro

@brynjarerluson@OwenRees I'm really afraid that there is no chance of that. Laudrup giving up hope. (On Swansea)

@brynjarerluson@jamie_maginness @hearn161 @maffff He is the best player Iceland have produced since Gudjohnsen. Some say he will be even better #Iceland

@brynjarerluson@maffff @hearn161 One thing about Gylfi. He is not a arrogant player, he has his feets on the ground and is deciding his future very wisely.

@brynjarerluson@maffff @hearn161 Plus he doesn't touch alcohol #NoBarFight #NoGossip

@brynjarerluson@maffff @hearn161 Yes guess Rodgers needs to convince John Henry a little bit more what Gylfi is all about #Spend20milliononHendo #Ok (on us offering a bigger wage than Liverpool)

@brynjarerluson@jamie_maginness @maffff @hearn161 Yes Sir Alex scouted him couple of times. Gylfi said in Icelandic media that he could never reject Man U.

@brynjarerluson@maffff Okey great! Yes Gylfi is quite often in interviews with our website. But he is unreachable last couple of days #NoWonderWhy

Happy sharing name / Twitter handle etc but if you follow and talk please don't be too demanding or abusive. Anyone being as open as that will quickly stop if you aren't respectful of it. As would I.

Also, still, don't get hopes up. Just another source to verify what I've been saying.

Appreciate the insight Maffff.

Regardless as to whether Gylfi comes back to us or not, the fact that we are competing with Liverpool and Spurs for such a quality player is utterly surreal, and - hopefully - indicative of things to come in the future.

As much as I love Gylfi I think I'm more excited by our intent and what this may hold for the future than the player...
