Went to Colwyn Bay v AFC Halifax this afternoon in BS North. It was a good match, 1-0 to the Shayman who brought a very decent away following as they look to carry on their rise up the pyramid with a third successive promotion.

Added bonus was meeting a nice gent who is a fellow Royal who used to live in the Bay and had travelled up from South Wales especially for this match! you meet RFC fans in the strangest places

Not much else on; low level cup ties @ Palmer Pk or Milton

... nearly went to Wantage last night (Wed) ; glad I didn't - though not sure if they had ET before the pens - probably didn't bother.
Similarly avoided a 1-0 at Tadley - ended up at Fleet Town: very poor 0-3 reverse vs Bedfont Town who, although only a place or two above the home side, looked miles better - very sharp up front.

You would have had a late-ish night had you gone to the game even though they did go straight to penalties after the ninety minutes. The game didn't start until 20.30 as one of the assistant referees was delayed.

... indeed - expect if he was based over this way, he was held up on the M4 - heard about Westbound strife as I headed down the Swallowfield By-Pass to Fleet - going across jn 11 it looked OK but I think there had been some problems nr Theale or beyond.

I'd decided on Fleet or Tadley by then anyway - and I'd not been able to confirm the former was on. The away sides' website still had news re postponement from the previous attempt to play a week or so back, presumably hadn't been updated. I wasn't going to gamble on it being OK since I knew Fleet was definitely ON.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
... here's this w/e's NL offerings involving 'local' sides.
- with Royals v Clarets on Friday night, there's opportunity for some of you NOT glued to Chelski v Brum Scum ## at lunchtime Saturday - to 'dip your toe' in the NL swamp! :P
## then again this is on ESPN anyway - thanks to ITV for splashing out big bucks on their great FA Cup extravaganza :roll: .
Plenty of re-arranged FA Vase 5th Round ties scheduled for Sat 18th - but precious little of 'local' interest - Staveley MW (nr Chesterfield) are the first club through to the Quarter Finals - won their tie last night 2-0 vs Oadby (Leics).
I might go a bit further myself and aim for the tie Herne Bay v Larkhall - away side are located just north of Bath so not too far away - I consider Western League to be local enough - I've done most of the two divisions - though not quite sure when I'll get as far as Bridport, Barnstaple or Ilfracombe!_____________________________________________________________________________
Nowt to worry about tomorrow. Only Chessington Zoo is open and World of Adventures does not reopen until March. But there is the danger of Seaworld or whatever its called being relocated to Chessy's ground. Nice clubhouse, plenty of parking but the main supporter entrance has a frontier feel about it! 2 weekends without football are doing my nut! Plus, Windsor have recently signed Leeyon Phelan from Hanworth Villa. What I have heard is that he is a big unit who holds the ball up well. Could be an interesting run in.
Badshot Lea 1-6 Guildford City
Banstead Athletic 3-4 Camberley Town
Chessington & Hook United 2-1 Windsor – sounds as if Windsor had problems on a poor surface - now 11 pts adrift of City: - next couple of weeks could be vital - Windsor have three games at home vs 2 mid-table sides (Wembley Mon 20th Croydon Sat 25th) and Sandhurst (see below) whilst Guildford only have 1 game in this period next Friday evening H v Ash - though may also have a re-arranged game vs Cove - whose defence is leakier than Sandhurst's :o
Egham Town 3-2 South Park
Horley Town 3-1 Epsom & Ewell
Raynes Park Vale 1-0 Farnham Town
Chalfont Wasps 3-0 Penn & Tylers Green
Chinnor 2-1 Finchampstead
Lambourn Sports 0-3 Highmoor Ibis - H/I still out in front and with a healthy lead: Newbury have 4 games in hand but are dropping points - the two clash at Palmer Park next Saturday (25th)
Milton United 2-2 Newbury
WESSP
Winchester City 2-0 Downton
WESS1
Andover New Street 2-4 AFC Portchester
Pewsey Vale 0-2 Cowes Sports
Warminster Town 2-2 Fleet Spurs
Whitchurch United 0-0 Stockbridge
... in the Vase, winners for the last three season's, 'Northern Giants' Whitley Bay, bowed out to their own divisional leaders West Auckland - a relief to many since some of their fans have often come across, when contributing to southern-based chat rooms, as graceless nerks: - though doubtless there's a large dose of sour grapes there. My own experience of overhearing a couple of their 'typical fans' at a Tie a few season's back would tend to back this up however.
Similarly another 'self-perceived' NL 'big fish', Gresley were thumped 4-0 at St Ives - again much relief all round, probably based upon the small-minded behaviour from a few of their 'fans' in their last round win at Three Bridges - though apparently the ECML clubs aren't that enamoured of their constant 'billy-big balls' posing, having been demoted down to that league recently.
The quarter final line up (Ties due 3rd March) is now:
Shortwood (Hellenic) v Herne Bay (Kent) - might be moved to Sunday the 4th if FGR at home [EDIT which they are vs Cambridge Utd] - though this option was not in effect yesterday.
Staveley MW v St Ives
Peterborough North Star v Dunston UTS
Billingham Synthonia or Bournemouth (Wessex) v West Auckland
... I watched Herne Bay overcome Larkhall from the Western league 1-0 in a fairly dour slog yesterday - home side had only just lost their first league match of the season - and though reduced to 10 men very early on, kept a limp-looking 'Larks' at bay :roll: and won the tie with a free-kick about 3 mins from time.
No complaints following Windsor's game at Chessington & Hook. C&H were very good value for their win. I felt throughout the second half that we would do well to escape with a point. That said, once we equalised we had chances to take the lead but were wasteful. The pitch was not to blame either. Same for both sides and C&H adapted far better than we did. It certainly looked to me as if we had not played together for a year let alone 3 weeks.
Yup sure 'tiz - currently sat in 5th place in the United Counties League (primarily covers Northamptonshire but includes bits of Beds, Bucks, Cambs, Leics as well as Lincs and even Naaarfolk)
- Kings Lynn (1st place) are recuperating at this level after their recent traumas higher up the pyramid - reached STEP02 having risen through the Northern League but suffered financially in the CONF-North and were 'demoted' then folded in 2009 and reformed back in STEP05.
Also still in the Vase - Peterborough North Star are from this league - should I wish to keep my interest going for the next round, this is the obvious venue - done Shortwood and Bournemouth (should they win their replay) - though I might treat some offspring to a trip back to Nailsworth if the Shortwood tie gets bumped to the Sunday PM.
Slough Town forum being moderated at the moment due to 'incidents after the game'. Bad blood between the clubs after an ill-tempered game earlier in the season, with the Hayes keeper not making himself any friends with some exceptional amateur dramatics apparently. Still, St Neots only drew so still looking good for a showdown in Cambridgeshire on 10th March. I predict a Lloyd Owusu last minute winner and amazing scenes etc...
... poor result at Stag Meadow last night in the CCLP: Windsor 1-2 Wembley -that leaves them 11 points behind Guildford with only 1 game in hand now.
:?
Goals galore at Palmer Pk where Highmoor IBIS win 6-3 vs Frilsham & Yatt. in the Reading Senior Cup.
Considered going to either of these but in the end domestic shennanigans - late Tea - Dad's taxi duties - and the fact I couldn't be @rsed.
Games tonight (Tue) locally at Scours Lane (RTFC v Holyport), Larges Lane (Wokkers v Abingdon T) and slightly further afield (from here 8) ) at Camberley, Sandhurst, Chertsey, Didcot and the B&B Semi @ Adams Pk (WW v Hungerford KO 19:30)
