Liverpool 3 - 0 Chelsea

Agger was wide open for both of those corners. Was bound to get a header in...

Henderson's finish was rather good.

Dalglish seems to be going out on a high then. Thrashing Chelsea and sticking on one of the mascots for the last five minutes.

Fair play Kenny, gr8 tactics resting players on Sat so that the could push on for the 8th spot.

Whole Kop singing Munich too, any excuse for that.

Hoop Blah So, you think Kes is right that he's going to walk tonight then?

I have to say that, watching the game on TV last night, and watching the playing staff parade around the pitch with their kids, Kenny had something of an emotional look about him. It sort of had the look of a man enjoying the spectacle for the last time as manager. I admit I had had a few pints at that stage though.

Victor Meldrew Unfortunately buying English for English sake has so far not worked for Liverpool but they do have Kelly and Flanagan who could well make it (Kelly at centre-back) so they could be the most English of sides when you include Johnson,Shelvey,Sterling and by then the veteran Gerrard so if the English day does arrive they just could be a bit better placed than some.
In the meantime a few more decent foreigners wouldn't go amiss.

Don’t forget Spearing

Carragher will retire this summer and spend a year as Dalglish's assistant before Kenny steps aside.

Was not expecting Dalglish to go, but as already mentioned, there was a resigned air about him at the end of the game last night. I do think it’s a shame. It might provide bucketfuls of LOLZ to non-Liverpool fans, but to all but the eldest of Liverpool fans, Dalglish very much is Liverpool Football Club. Holding a great player and manager in such esteem is not something to be ashamed of, and nor is giving him that bit of extra rope as he tries to turn around the fortunes of the team. And isn’t that what the game we grew up with is all about, a bit of fire and passion for your boyhood team or the club that you spent the best of your career with? If every club was run by it’s Dalglish, we might have something resembling a top division that we all still enjoyed watching.

Sadly I think the owners might plump for a new approach and a foreign manager - wouldn’t totally surprise me to see Benitez come back – rather than promoting someone like Carragher from within.

I think it’s the blind faith that Liverpool fans seem to put in Dalglish that can be annoying.

And if they were to promote from within and give Carragher the job within the next few years, it would be a complete disaster for them imo. They’d be better off trying to get Martinez.

They should've got O'Neil when they had the chance really.

I can see Carragher being a good manager one day, and promoting from within has worked pretty well for Liverpool in the past, but then they've always done it at a time of strength. They're not in that position now obviously.

I think I said when they got rid of Camoli that it might be with a view to moving Dalglish upstairs over the summer. Like Shearer at Newcastle, he almost had to be given the job (and to largely fail) in order for any other manager to be given a fair crack of the whip.

As for the Liverpool transfer being poor last summer, I think you could understand what they were trying to do. Most of them made some sense, but none of them have quite paid off (yet).

I was stone cold sober and remarked the same to the missus - he looked a little teary-eyed to me too.

Another observation was that had the players spent as much time trying to score on the pitch as procreating off it, they may have done much better across the season. Clearly, the last four months of the season was beyond them as they were all doing 2am feeds every night. Never seen so many babes in arms before...

Last night was a bit like turning the clock back some years to a time when every London club (bar Arsenal) dreaded going to Anfield as they knew they would get thrashed.
A fairly meaningless game but entertaining.
I wonder if the woodwork is wider at Anfield than anywhere else as once again it was struck (4 times)more than you would normally expect in a game.

The other question I have after last night is, why Spearing over Shelvey?

Shelvey is a fair more composed footballer playing in the same position. Also, some of the passing last night was really good chelsea couldn't/didn't care enough to get near them.

It almost seemed like Chelsea had given up on a champions league spot and are pinning their hopes in beating Real Madrid.

But that's what being a passionate, partisan football fan is about. No-one thinks Roy Keane was just a poor man's Phil Parkinson, except us idiot Reading fans. If we can't idolise anyone any more then we're just the blind consumers the multi-billionaire owners want us to be.

Zac – my question on Spearing has always been ‘why Spearing over anyone’. Firmly in the Francis Benali mould of never, ever, looking like a professional footballer.

And I think they are playing Bayern Munich. :|
