Royal Lady From Fordham's twitter: Bongani Khumalo is wanted by readingfc according to @football_agent9, but Rangers are also keen on the Spurs centre back :|

decent signing there if true, doubt it would be permanent though. He went out on loan at Preston and impressed during their 'improved' spell towards the end of the season. Caught up with him myself when he signed for Spurs, seemed to know a fair bit about RFC and the team.

Could not really disagree with that assessment.

However, if the club really wanted to show some ambition I think we should look to buy Luke Chambers. Cardiff are now after him today - so with a year left on his contract Forest might sell at about 1.5 - 2M. I cannot see that we are so cash strapped that we could not go to that.

Sonko pre-injury = Luke Chambers>>>>> Mills > Sonko post-injury >>>>> Ian Harte at centre half

So, if we were to sign Khumalo and Sonko, would that shut up the "gaping holes at the back brigade" and get any sort of "whoops I might have overreacted that we didn't sign anyone the instant we sold Matt Mills"?

Errrr....why is Luke Chambers, Forest's player of the season, leaving the club whether it is for us or Cardiff?

trueroyal1871 Depends on what his fitness is like and if he does the rights things in training to impress McDermott. I think he would be good cover and our medical and fitness staff would help him to stay fit and as injury free as possible.

Considering it was our medical staff that fcuked him in the 1st place by sending him back out when it was obvious to everybody watching the game that he had seriously hurt himself, it's the least we could do!

I don't care how good a guy the trainer was he made a massive error that day. It still rankles with me.

From my memory (which isn't saying much) I thought that Sonko had motioned that he wanted to go back on. I realise that it's not the player's job to make these decisions, but would you argue with him?

pace=forster I seem to recall he refused to train with the reserves at one point?

It was all a big misunderstanding according to Mr S, and it was a reserve game with the wonderful Emerse Fae. Forgive and forget and all that.

RoyalX (brain cells addled over the years and all that) I concur with you, I seem to remember Sonks making light of his situation on the touchline, then a few minutes back on pitch it becoming blatently obvious to both us and to him...that he was in a bad state. You can hardly blame the staff for that

Seeing as we already agreed that there wasn't really any over reaction and just concern and discussion no it wouldn't. It all depends on how effective these two can be as well. If neither are really up to it and it's just the best options we're willing to afford, despite them being of low quality, then again, it wouldn't negate any concerns previously raised.

I'm with RR on this really. It was Fearn's job to assess the damage and diagnose the problem. Obviously the players responses have quite a bearing on that diagnosis but it was a a cock not to get that judgement right, and a cock up that may well have worsened the situation quite a bit.

Ever since his injury Sonks has looked a liability whether it be for us, Stoke, Hull or Pompey. I'd love to be proved wrong but for me Sonko was, rather than is Superman.

In summary, let's give him a couple of friendly games and then decide. Can be 10 pages for nothing then and we can all move on. I for one hope he is a success.

Agreed. Footballers need to be protected from their own keenness and stupidity. Furthermore, Sonko was know to be a super hero who would try to battle on regardless in adverse situations, therefore Fearn should have been even more cautious and wary of his claims to be alright and desire to get back on.

Sonko was Superman the first time around but is a very, very different player now. To my mind, if this is the type of player we are looking at we would have been better off keeping Ivar.

Spot on-everybody in the crowd could see that he was crocked, everybody but the medical staff.
His signing surely wouldn't warrant our chairman coming out with the usual "This signing shows the ambition of this club to get back to where we want to be in the Premier League......."
FFS shouldn't we be trying to build, not just patch up?
