TFF The BBC's still pushing their equality agenda:

The performance was the second best by an England team following the 1966 win by the men's side and eclipsed the 1990 men's team, who finished fourth in Italy.

There simply isn't enough :| at the comparison. They did good. But they're different sports

Part of me is now fed up of the (predictably) over-the-top, in-your-face, publicity about the women's football.

If they're going to promote it - fine, but it's shoved down your throat constantly. Maybe the marketing and advertising people are the same ones who play Sweet Caroline at the madstad?

Because it wouldn't be shoved down the nation's throat if the men came third in a world cup?

Totally disregarding the fact the U17s won the world cup a few years ago too.

I do feel the analogy breaks down somewhat when you include a reference to this being the best a senior England side has done in a world cup since 1966 and then go on to say in the same sentence that they did it with a first win over Germany.

If you're including the men's game as a comparison there, you should be including their record against Germany, particularly given it was Germany the men beat to win in 66.

I'll concede it's getting a little over the top now.

Indeed - such comparisons are daft really - there's so much good stuff to say about the team that going OTT like that is completely unnecessary.

To be fair, USA's 3rd and 4th were pretty good but I recon FFF would be in with a shout of beating the Japanese.

Genuine question will anyone who has enjoyed the women's game, assuming most on this thread are men, be going to a game in the near future? International or league game? If the billions put into the Olympics didn't create a tangible legacy i doubt the women's world cup will either

Meanwhile our own FA tells the England team to get back in the kitchen and put the tea on.

If I lived in Reading yeah. Cambridge can barely sustain a men's team

No Fixed Abode If Fran Kirby is that good - why didn't she start most games?

Looks like the club you support rates her...........

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33420937

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal have all shown an interest in signing Reading and England forward Fran Kirby.

Kirby, 22, scored England's first goal of the Women's World Cup in the 2-1 win over Mexico as the Lionesses went on to finish third overall.

Chelsea have made a bid for the only player in England's squad to currently play in Women's Super League 2.

City and Arsenal are also interested with the transfer deadline falling on Thursday.

It is understood that Kirby, who is contracted with Reading until 2018, could attract a record transfer fee of between £40,000 and £60,000.

Anyone else getting fed up with the media hype/general hype of the England's women's team? Sums up the English mentality these days when they're given all the plaudits for losing.

We, as a Country really need to get that out of our way of thinking.

Well, that's a bit more like it rather than treat them as Champions.

No one said anything about top. Even if the ladies don't play in Reading i expect they're closer to it than any half decent team is to cambridge.
