Royal Rother The pleasure of my company will only be found at Stag Meadow.... :wink:

... Well! .....that's certainly 'swung it' for me - off to the 'Alfie' Davies Memorial Ground it is then! :wink:

... actually not even sure I can get out early enough to go anywhere anyway - depends on whether the In-Laws are babysitting and if we can get the middle one to/from Cubs.

Oh and the ET 'factor' might swing the choice back in favour of Camberley v Egham
:roll:

Alan Partridge Why isn't there any sodding games on Tuesday night? Means I am considering wasting my life savings to go to QPR

... wouldn't dream of 'tempting' you away from Stag Meadow but there are in fact over a doz. 'local' alternatives this Tuesday eve, to an over-priced bog-awful view with nowhere to park - just to watch Bodger's finest most likely get caned by the Fake Hoops :|

Pondering which to go to myself - trouble with Cup games is they can drag into ET & pens which can then seriously impinge on 'beer-time'. 8)

FA Trophy replays were mentioned above - as well as the Royalists v Evesham there are three other replays :
Marlow v Merthyr
Slough v Uxbridge (@ Beaconsfield FC - virtually adjacent to M40 jn 4)

... Oh and sssh Oxford City vs Chesham :? - their ground - which is quite impressive - is way up on the NE bit of the Ring Rd beyond the A40.

... also League matches @
Camberley, Chertsey & Henley

... and various 'lesser' Cup Ties taking place - for example @
Reading Town, Cove, Sandhurst, Farnham & Fleet Spurs.

Not really as local for me FoC, Live very near to Didcot, so it's more Oxford to Newbury based teams like Diddy Town, Abingdon Utd, Thatcham or Oxford City that I would be more likely to consider. So Oxford City is a poss I suppose, I have played there loads of times, used to be our home ground for the league rep side, it's right up passed the hospital a bit secluded in a huge park.

... hadn't taken into account how nr Tractor-Land you were :? - and indeed there aren't that many games on, over that way THIS week.

Nearest alternatives to Oxford C would be to travel further up the M40 to Brackley who are at home to Stourbridge - or go round the other side of Sw!^£&0n to Cirencester Town who are playing Andover.

Shame W&E got a replay, they were scheduled to be at Hungerford tomorrow night - might have been a bit nearer for you than over here in E.Berks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had a quick 'shufti' and there seem to be plenty more on round your way next week - all Southern League Cup ties which are deliberately
'seeded/regionalised' to try and ensure local interest.
These were on Tuesday 27th Oct last time I looked:-
Abingdon United v Swindon Supermarine
Didcot Town v Banbury United
Hungerford Town v Woodford United 7.30 - not quite sure where the local interest is maintained here - probably 'drawn' together cos Hungerford are new to this league and Woodford are bleedin' miles from anybody else!
North Leigh v Brackley Town
... bear in mind, even at this level, not all of these clubs are likely to give this cup their full attention. :roll:
... plus in the Hellenic Premier the same evening:
Witney v Malmesbury
- Polythene UK stadium out to the west of the town is well worth a visit if you've not been before - but don't expect all NL grounds to be of that standard.
Didcot at home is always good so that will probably be done. Can't be arsed with Cirencester, played there as well :lol:
Wouldn't mind going to supermarine one time, only 25mins away or so, looks quite tidy to be fair.
... just be sure to wear that extra layer especially for an evening game - there must be a micro-climate nr that bit of Swindon - I've been to several grounds over that way - Highworth, Supermarine, Shrivenham, Clanfield, Fairford and Carterton and they are ALL flamin' perishing this time of year.
Highworth is the worst probably cos its on top of a hill and there's no shelter - seems to be at least 5 deg colder than anywhere else in the vicinity! :shock:
Was actually going to ask what division Newbury are in, we've got them in the cup in a couple of weeks.
... the clues are above but they are currently languishing at the wrong end of Hellenic One East.
Have won 4 out of 12 - significantly against the weaker teams in this league.
They finished third last season behind Ascot & Binfield - read somewhere their manager and a few players decamped somewhere else in the Hellenic for this season - can't remember where now - sorry! :oops:
Faraday Rd has seen much better days and by my reckoning at least two possibly three other 'Newburys' !
The current version used to be OLA Newbury (Old London Apprentice) and came up out of the Reading Leagues (I think).
When I went beginning of last season, their floodlights were in the 'prone' position pending maintenance - they were never repaired and removed altogether last season, apparently following an 'incident' with some local kids breaking into the ground (not difficult) and injuring themselves on the pylons!
Was a snippet on the NL forum, that they hope to have lights back up 'soon' - sure they didn't enter the Floodlit Cup this season. (had to withdraw obviously after entering 08/09)
Hence as of 31st Oct they'll be kicking off 14:00ish for home games until sometime in Feb.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AP - If I've worked the B&B draw out correctly - I see 'your lot' are sitting in 3rd in the N.Berks - expect Faringdon & Saxton will continue to set the pace there?
- pleasantly surprised to see AFC Wallingford have started well - they've had awful problems at Hithercroft for the last couple of years and have dropped like a stone down the Pyramid since their heady days of finishing on 100 pts plus and above AFC Wimbledon in the CCL.

Don't expect I'll 'start' on the N.Berks for quite a few years yet though...... 8)

That is correct FoC, We are away at AFC Wallingford on saturday. Newbury FC away on the 7th Nov. Woodley Town go to Faringdon.

Saxton won the league at a canter last season, Faringdon should push them this year, they are a solid enough side and 3rd is probably the best we can hope for. As you say Wallingford's problems have been well documented, they stayed up by the virtue of a replayed game last year which they beat Steventon in and survived. Got a load of new players this season apparantly and they've started well, should be a decent game on Sat.

Christ, what league are they in now?

I saw Aldershot v Newbury in the Rymans in about 95. The only game i saw where they had kick ins instead of throw ins. Possibly the worst rule experiment of all time.

W&E lost the Trophy replay 0-2 to Evesham Utd last night.

We apparently edged Saturday's game but not last night. We didn't do particularly badly but Evesham are from the league above us (albeit struggling somewhat) and it showed. Better, faster, more clinical and deserving of the result.

The new striker just signed, Victor Osobu has a poor 1st touch but boy is he fast. He will scare the life out of defenders at our level. (Mind you, I said the same about Marcus Richardson when he arrived and he's been extraordinarily unimpressive. Having said that he came on as a sub and had his best game for us last night - he almost looked effective.)

The difference (I'm tempted to call it a gulf) between the 2 teams from above (Evesham and Farnborough) who have knocked us out of the Cups would be worrying as we are looking for promotion on our crowds of 150 which ain't going to produce much in the way of funds for the player investment required to compete effectively...
