“Controversially, I’ve looked at the performance of Real Madrid and I think they should sell Ronaldo at the end of the season,” Gibson said.

I always pay more heed to someone's opinion when they start by telling you how controversial they are.

He had the highest assist rate in the league the last I looked. Not bad for someone whose selfishness is bad for the team.

Now if you're getting rid of someone for being selfish and not hitting previous form then Mr Gibson might want to look at a certain Welsh Winger named Gareth.

I do wonder if there is a point when your Messi's & Ronaldo's get close enough to the end of their career yet are still the best around that their clubs consider losing out on 2 or 3 more years by cashing in in a huge way.

I suppose they also make pcunt loads of money from the marketing of these players (do RM still operate their 50% image rights thing?) So the answer is probably keep hold of them forever and market the f*ck out of them the older they get.

Dutch fans are going a bit crazy in Rome - vandalism and some casual rioting thrown in.

Three wins on the bounce for Dortmund. Up to 10th. Nine points off a champions league place.

Bayern follow up last weeks 8-0 thumping of Hamburg with a 6-0 win at Paderborn. Safe to say their blip of a couple of weeks ago is over.

In other games, Augsburg's keeper scores a late equaliser in a 2-2 with Leverkusen.

Two assistant referees in the Elche v Real Madrid game need to go back and learn what offside is. At least 5 times they've been totally wrong including denying Benzema one of the goals of the season. Referee also letting Elche get away with some truly horrendous tackles including one on Bale which could have ended his season.

Madrid win it 2-0 with goals from Benzema and Ronaldo but Isco is the star of the show and gets a standing ovation from the Elche fans.

Olympiakos manager goes on the pitch pre match and squares up to Panathanikos fans after they spent weeks singing 'orrible songs about one of their former players who now coaches at Olympiakos. he misjudged it somewhat.

I once went into the Gate 13 Ultras bar under that terrace before a match with a Greek girl who was a Panathinaikos supporter. I'm not sure I've ever felt so out of place in a drinking establishment. The Jazz cafe, it was not.

Leaves the race for 4th pretty poised, might make for an exciting end to the season with all the contenders able to focus on domestic matters now.
