Incidentally I didn't like the remarks of our own Jason Roberts when it was announced that Ferdinand had been left out of the squad and with the other nonsense that he spoke about on 606 about there not being enough black managers in English football-he is in danger of seeing himself as a kind of black power spokesman when in fact he should be looking for equality which is something that most of us want in our society.

It's a similar argument to "we should have more female barristers and more female MPs" that has been touted recently.Why?
Yes if they are good enough.
Likewise black football managers.
Listening to Roberts on 606 coming back from a game I heard him getting agitated about the black managers and how English foootball should follow the American football approach of having an equal quota system of black/white head coaches.
He hadn't done any research on the matter and if he had he would have discovered that the system is a dreadful failure according to the press a couple of days later-the record of black coaches appointed after the introduction of the system was abysmal.
The black coaches already in place before the system fared as well as white coaches so the summary of the article was that the best will rise to the top if they are good enough regardless of colour.
That's how it should be for barristers , MPs or football managers and the secondary question is "are there enough with sufficient determination,application and skill waiting in the wings to perform these functions?" and not the big presumption that they are.

In England, there were certainly far fewer black players at the top level a while back, I may have sold it short at 15 - 20 years.. maybe 30 is more accurate.
