Geekins Didn't McDermott say that we weren't going to Le Fondre then bam... Welcome Alfie!

If only it was that easy - he said Gylfi was good enough for Barca - should have beeen enough to secure a 10 year contract by your logic, but sadly it hasn't happened.

Gylfi to Reading is less likely than England winning a penalty shoot-out.
You know what's going to happen, but can't bring yourself to admit it until it has happened.

Talksport radio claiming gylfi had a medical at Spurs last week and that it will be tied up in the next 48 hours for £10million. AVB is also set to be installed as manager.

No idea who to believe, but the information about us bidding for Gylfi was given to me by reliable sources who aren't the usual on here, that's why I trusted them all along. The doubt I have in Fordham is that the club are likely to be wanting to keep their bid totally under wraps, hence why no media have picked up on it and why Hoffenheim didn't mention us in the clubs who have made a bid.

I haven't read getReading yet so I can't judge how reliable these sources that Fordham is using are, but if they are then it's a real punch in the stomach and a snap back to reality for us. Just days ago we were talking about our clubs new ambition and possibly Europe soon, but with the Pog deal far from certain we've still only signed one player despite McDermott saying he wanted at least 4 or 5 before pre-season begins (which is next week I believe), and although I can't judge Garath having not really seen him play much, it's not really a big signing compared to what we were led to believe the last couple of weeks over Sig, Pog and Rhodes

EDIT: Just seen getReading and as expected there are no quotes whatsoever from Fordham to back up his story. Therefore the 2nd paragraph can be ignored for the time being

It is frustrating, but I still think we're in with a chance. The first words of the article on Sky Sports give me an indication of how genuine it is.

Sky Sources understand Tottenham are confident of signing Swansea and Liverpool target Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Who gives a monkeys what Tottenham think. We announced that we were confident of signing Pogrebnyak a week ago, and we had the contract agreed! I just cant see the logic of him going to Spurs, with them set to lose Van Der Vaart and co.

There is NO WAY that RFC wouldn't have at least made some sort of offer for Gylfi. McD would have him back in a flash - if it were down to wages or whatever, then I could see that we might not want to match the Liverpool's or Spurs' of this world - but even that doesn't appear to be true if we take the ITK stuff as true also.

I think RFC have played a blinder here - I'm hoping we have spoken to him, have offered him what he wants and he's coming back - all under the radar of the media and in a way that pleases the likes of other clubs like Hoffenheim - rather than the Brendan Rodgers' teams who, probably thanks to Rodgers and his mouth as big as his watch, jeopardise negotiations by releasing stuff to the media before anything is cut and dried.

And if Gylfi has to go somewhere else, I'd rather it were Spurs really - so there's your choice Gylfi.

I suggest Pepe The Horseman applies for Fordham's job - cos I reckon it could be vacant in the very near future.

Sigurdsson: LFC say wage demands were unrealistic and they expect him to join Spurs, though not officially ruling themselves out yet.

Why do we have to have made an offer?

It's quite possible that we asked for a chat with the player to discuss how he would feel about coming back, asked him to speak to AZ about plans for the club, but that Gylfi decided that coming back wasn't something he'd like to do. Why would we make a formal offer to Hoffenheim under those circumstances? We might have made an informal offer of personal terms to the player, but the two are completely different...

I suspect a lot of the differing stories come from people understanding the specifics in different ways. Fordham may well have asked "have we made an offer to Hoffenheim?" and may well get a completely different answer to someone "ITK" who has been told we made an offer (informally of personal terms to the player)....

Either way, it seems that Gylfi signing for us is becoming increasingly unlikely...

Well.... Not sure what tweets from 25th June from Fordham people are saying make it looks like it has legs... It says it's an interesting situation. Nothing more.

I think, on balance, that I trust a named, professional journo, who we know for sure has links to the club, more than I trust an anonymous person on the internet who uses mysterious sources, which we can't confirm.

I'm kinda ready for the season to start. It's fairly boring now listening to a load of keyboard warriors recycling things they saw on twitter. Roll on July 14th!

Tbf its about as likely now as it's always been. Basically one small step up from "never gonna happen" and 95 pages and counting of an (admittedly very entertaining) internet pissing contest hasn't changed a thing.

I feel like a bloke in the disco who thinks a stunner is giving him the eye to find out she's looking at the bloke next to you.

Hard to disagree with this. Things like Twitter suddenly make people think they've got some credibility. I don't doubt that there are some on here who do have a but of inside knowledge, but quite why someone inside the club would be happily feeding someone like Jay potentially sensitive information, so that a load of people on here can get hard-ons over it, I'm not too sure.

So what is Fordham actually saying in the piece then? Any direct quotes at all from the club?

This is the whole article that Fordham wrote on Sigurdsson:

Brian McDermott’s side have also been linked with a sensational reunion with former midfield ace Gylfi Sigurdsson.

But the Reading Post has learned that Sigurdsson and his representatives have not held talks with McDermott nor owner Anton Zingarevich.

Sigurdsson would have been welcomed back to the club with open arms.

But he looks set to join either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur, who can easily afford to pay Hoffenheim the £8million transfer fee and the Iceland international’s wages.

Hoffenheim have told the 22-year-old that he has until the end of this month to sort out his future, which will be in England.

Fordham must literally use HNA? and Twitter as his sources.

The way local papers are so supine in their coverage of football these days it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Fordham has been fed a line by the club and is happily trotting it out in the full knowledge that it may or may not be based on truth, essentially club PR.
