Sanguine Didn't Pards sign a ridiculous length contract last season? That's one hell of a pay-off if Newcastle sack him.

There will be a clause that'll probably mean he only gets a year pay off instead of the 8 he signed. Ashley isn't stupid

Wouldn't that make the 8-year contract pointless? Pards isn't stupid either.

Either way, I can't see it being cheap to lay him off.

TBM Ashley isn't stupid

At times during his Newcastle ownership he's done a pretty good job of looking it.

This is true but getting £35m for Andy Carroll is a stroke of genius, if you ask me

Why is it pointless?

He's probably been given a set of targets he has to meet each year - if he hits them they can't sack him, if he doesn't they can.....if he keeps hitting them, he's got a job for 8 years unless they want to pay it all off. Plus it means any club wanting to take him will have to fork out a hefty sum to "buy him" out of his contract

Wasn't exactly a difficult negotiation to conduct

A Geordie lad I met in holibobs told me the reason Pards got an eight year deal is because he's massively into Ashley for gambling debts. Not sure quite how it works in Ashley's favour mind you

Not so.

But this is also an opportunity for Pardew to set the record straight; explode a few myths. Not least the one about gambling debts and with it the suggestion that he is Ashley’s man in a way that isn’t terribly complimentary. ‘That still hurts me, the casino tag,’ he says, acknowledging the fact that he was photographed emerging from a casino with Ashley and Llambias last week.
‘I’ve never bet in a casino; it’s just not something I do. But my owner and my managing director are from that world, they want to socialise in that world and there have been occasions — and there will be in the future — when I go in there with them.
‘It’s important we have a good relationship and if that’s where I need to see them then that’s fine by me. But I’m not a gambler. The only gambling I do is on a Saturday afternoon when I might put on two wingers or two strikers. It’s important I have a good relationship with Mike and Derek. Over the years my history with boards hasn’t been great. I had fights at Reading. At West Ham I had a fantastic relationship with the board but I was really upset with them when they sold the club without telling me. I then had new owners I didn’t get on particularly well with.

Greg Abbott sacked from Carlisle. 3rd longest-serving manager in the country, since 2008.

One of which was after he organised a promotion party that was paid for by the club that SJM hadn't authorised. They had a mega falling out over that, and there was obviously more.

There is a one year pay-off clause.

Not a massive surprise, They'd gone something like two years without wining 2 games in a row and were treading water with him in charge. The fans had been calling for him to go for the last year.

Brian McDermott second favourite to replace him after Martin O'Neill.

It'd be nice for Brian to get it but it sounds like he's got a genuinely good job at Leeds and the fans love him so I'd be very surprised to see him leave.

FAI are skint

They won't buy McD out of Leeds and probably can't afford MON

Roy Keane looks decent value @ 25s
