If you had two choices, of basically the same job, and one offered you more money what would you do?

I moved from a highly paid job and set up my own business and now earn half what I used to but I am very much happier. How many millions do you need in the bank to be happy?

I would always go for the happiness/career beneficial move over the money any day.

Past performance is no guide to future performance.

Liverpool - anyone's guess under Rodgers. If he has learnt from his time at RFC he may be great - if not sacked by Chirstmas.

Spurs - If AVB becomes manager Spurs could very easily be mid table if his Chelsea form is repeated.

Swansea - very likely to be second season syndrome so to be fair ruled out as soon as BR left.

RFC - the best long term career choice by far. Come back for one season. Help lift RFC to comfortable survival. Be first choice and have the team built round you, score 15+ goals and secure move to Man Unt next summer or the summer after - which is your long term stated ambition.

Right, so it's easier to move from Reading to Man Utd than Spurs to Man Utd?

And while Liverpool and Spurs are risky propositions, Reading are gauranteed to suceed next season>

I know rejection hurts Andrew, but you can't let it cloud your judgement. It's a great move for Sigurdsson and, liking the boy quite a lot, I'm happy for him because he deserves this chance. Doesn't stop me being gutted that we'll probably never again see him at the club, but that's our fault not his.

Sad really. I used to believe the hype about Gylfi that he was a true young professional that cared more about developing himself as a player than the money etc..etc.... But if he is going to Spurs as now being reported then it really is just all about the money these days. Nothing more and nothing less.

I suppose we should not be surprised.

Liverpool - in midtable
Swansea - second season syndrome?
Reading - relegation favourites.

Only one way to find out...

If we're totally honest, we know the move to Spurs or Liverpool makes more sense for Gylfi's career. I would felate him once an hour every hour for as long as it takes if it meant he would come (lol) back to us, but the chances are so slim it's barely worth the jaw-ache.

I also don't think we would be in the position we are in now if we had not benefited from his sale. We could never have kept him either way. A couple of years down the line, when we've got a CL trophy under our belt, I'm sure he'll be first on the 'to call' list.

Also given that we sold Gylfi and then had to change the way we played, getting him back would mean changing it all over again and the entire squad dynamic would presumably need extra tweaking/expense to accommodate.

Tottenham Hotspur have moved ahead of Liverpool and Swansea City in the pursuit of Gylfi Sigurdsson after agreeing a €10m (£8m) fee with Hoffenheim for the Iceland midfielder.

Spurs, who are without a manager, hope to complete a deal for the coveted 22-year-old by the end of this week, but they have still to agree personal terms with the player. Their approach to Hoffenheim comes amid serious doubts over the future of Luka Modric at White Hart Lane, with Real Madrid linked with the Croatian.

Liverpool had been confident of signing Sigurdsson following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as manager. The midfielder flourished under Rodgers on loan at Swansea last season and the pair have spoken several times since a proposed £6.8m transfer to the Liberty Stadium collapsed as a result of the manager's departure for Anfield.

Michael Laudrup, Rodgers's replacement at Swansea, has conceded defeat in attempting to resurrect a permanent move to south Wales for the Iceland international. Liverpool's interest in Sigurdsson remains but the club fear that Spurs are firm favourites to complete the deal.
