Wenger selling and not buying early in the summer + 8-2 defeat + transfer deadline day. That is a scenario made in heaven for crap tabloid journalists.

I fully expect that if his on field fortunes do not turn around over the next couple of games then one of the rags will run a story whereby Wenger will have been offered player X (probably the best bargain/summer signing by another PL club) as a cost of ever so slightly lower than his new club paid for him but he refused to do it.

It's lowest common denominator stuff

Seal :|

Maybe because Arteta and Parker valued differently by their clubs and (clearly) Wenger respectively?

Yes if it was £4m but £400k? - Arsenal would get that back in a month anyway

Maybe I am being a bit stupid here but how do footballers decide so last minute to shift their familes around the country?

If i called the mrs late on transfer deadline day to say 'hi dear, you know how we are settled in this area and the kids are at school here and all your mates are here....well I have just signed a contract with a company in Middlesboro so pack your stuff cos we are moving' she would go up the f***ing wall!

I need loads of time to faff over big decisions.

They know it's all part of the job - no different to armed forces families.

If you brought home £100k a week I'm sure it would soften the blow a bit.

Maybe cos the footballer will say "they're giving me a £500k signing on fee"..........she would then be blinded by the £ signs

Andy Griffin agonised over whether to come here and leave his family in North Staffs. Jason Kumas refused to accepted some moves because of his family, so it's not universal.

But i think the younger a player is the less of an issue it'll be.

Were they last minute deals though?

Can you imagine getting a call at 9pm saying "Stoke want you - get yourself up there" - it would take you 2 hours to do so, so no time to sit and think.

But also, was ladders really settling down for a quiet night in front of the telly last night with no inkling whatsoever that he might be sold?

His missus is from Liverpool isn't she? And Crouch has lived and played in Liverpool before. Stoke and Liverpool aren't a million miles away are they?

This is it........i guess SSN make it sound more dramatic than it actually is.

Take the Arteta deal - he knew about it on Tuesday - so had time to think it over

Sky build the moment up to crescendo levels of fever pitch, i think ladders has made a good move, he'll play every week, they're very aerial, and to be honest, they're not a bad side now, shame really, as i hoped we'd have signed him, but can't complain at our signings.

Plus there's always the option to stay in a hotel / with another player whilst you're deciding whether to uproot your family - no different to office people working away from home Monday to Friday.

But the job up the other end of the country is not the only one offering that, the job they have now is offering it already.

Big wages are standard at the top end of football. It's not like Crouchy rushed there to sign for them without consulting Mrs Crouchy because it was a huge step up from his £25k a year office job was it! Good chance he has dropped his wages to get that move through.

One thing's for certain, I'm not convinced Shaun Wright-Phillips knows where QPR is, nevermind that he has to move. He could barely string a sentence together when interviewed SSN last night, the utter dipshit.

The buying club will always provide a house and settlement help (players are so pampered it's untrue) - and it's not like anyone will have to sell up and move the whole family, as stated already. It just means adding another house to the family.

Ladders on the end of those long throws.

Great work by Stoke to get him and Palacios.

Joined Parma on a free a couple of months ago and has been loaned to Roma pending an £8m perm signing next summer. That's some bit of business for Parma.
