bobbybottler Any discussions about Argyle always remind me of the fat pcunt who singlehandedly took on the travelling Royals support in the rain in 1994, and had to be carried out by four coppers, each holding a limb.

That was truly epic!!

My favourite event at any Reading game ever.

The most amazing bit was that he ran the full length of the pitch without suffering a coronary.

He wasn't a thug. He just saw someone in the away end dishing out a family pack of kit-kats.

Baffling that it didn't make the highlights of the season VHS.

Methinks people are failing to distinguish between supporters of the club and the club itself.

They are intrinsically linked though Dirk. You can't have one without the other.

I don't really care for either to be honest. I have sympathy for any football fan who lose their club through no fault of their own, but that's tempered by their general attitude as a group of fans in many cases (Portsmouth being a prime example obviously).

Save the club? No. If those in control can't run it properly then why should anyone else save it for them?

I agree with that in some ways, but the real issue is the lack of say that supporters have in who runs their club - and how it's run.

Until they have some control, clubs will be ruined by owners, and supporters will risk losing that club through no fault of their own. People are deriding supporters for trying to save their club - what do you really expect them to do, say "Oh well, we won't miss it, and it's our own fault for not protest against dodgy owners....."?

The key, though, is that when the supporters rescue the club (or help to) they have influence or ownership over the club, rather than just have it controlled by someone else.

The is nothing to distinguish.

The club are one as a whole. Win together, lose together. Thats what a "Club" is.

See my previous post - the club are only one as a whole if the supporters have some kind of participation.

By parting with their cash and watching their team play, they are in participation with the club.

I think that you're asking an awful lot of any set of supporters who don't agree with the club's owners to actually stop going.

By walking away they sever any connection with the club, a connection that no doubt was there before the owners came along and would last after those owners left.

Unlike pretty much everything else, I have a bit of a soft spot for Argyle and Home Park. It felt like they were key players in both our 85-86 and 93-94 promotions (the first one in particular - giving us Andy Rogers and of course those 4 goals), so it's hard to dislike them too much just because their fans and or management can be as dislikeable from time to time as those belonging to any other club.

Jackson Corner For those that moan at SJM for not dipping his hand in his pocket, take note if he had not come along in 1990 and saved the club I dread to think where we would be now. At best we would be suffering a simaler plight to Plymouth. I feel sorry for the fans, but when you have to bring Peter Risdale in to sort out your financial problems then you deserve what you get.

SJM got tricked into buying the football club. If he hadn't picked up the baton, someone else would have done.

PAFC have paid their tax bill so survived today's court hearing, but still have plenty or problems ahead.

Svlad Cjelli PAFC have paid their tax bill so survived today's court hearing, but still have plenty or problems ahead.

Plymouth Argyle's short-term survival has been secured after a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs was dismissed in the High Court.

The League One club have paid off the £760,000 tax bill that led to the winding-up petition being presented.

However cash-flow remains a major issue at Home Park, with the players still awaiting their January wages.

The club, who are 18th in League One, are due to pay their next tax bill on 22 February.

Peter Ridsdale, football consultant to Plymouth's board, told BBC Spotlight: "It was good news in the sense that we've paid the petition debt and are up to date with the revenue, but that's just the first hurdle we've got over.

"Today isn't a day of celebration, today is just a sober reminder of the fact that we've still got a lot of people to pay money to."

Plymouth first appeared in the High Court on 8 December 2010, when they were granted until 9 February to clear their debts with HMRC.
The sale of four players during the January transfer window, including top scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips, enabled the tax debt relating to the winding-up petition to be paid off.
However, further instalments of tax payments, accrued since the presentation of the petition, have kept the club in a perilous financial position, demonstrated by the delay in paying players.
Ridsdale, who has been working as an advisor to Plymouth's board since December last year, has said £2 million is needed to ensure the club survives until the end of the season.

The Former Leeds and Cardiff City chairman added: "This is an attractive football club and if we can get it right by paying off the creditors and putting enough cash in to see it through to the end of the season, there's a massive upside opportunity

A special place for me as I witnessed Blakey's goal and met Spacey in the pub pre-match.
I am sure we will again soon.
P.S. I mean of course PAFC and RFC not Spacey and I.
