BUY:
Burnley - Still have decent players and I rate Howe.
Bristol City - Have Maynard, Pitman and Adomah. Although, Maynard may leave.
Notts Forest - I think McLaren will be backed. He isn't as big an idiot as everyone thinks.

SELL:
Ipswich - I think they are buying a load of crap again.
Peterborough - Will concede far too many goals and will lose Mackail-Smith
Reading - Will be tough to follow last season without Long

Good thread Rouge 8)

BUY

Soton....66/68

Good manager backed up with some very good young players (Oxlade-Chamberlain, Llilanna) and I assume money available to spend, Southampton will be looking up rather than down.

Hull....66/68

Finished the season in decent form especially away from home, good nucleus of players and Nigel Pearson is a good manager at this level.

Middlesboro....63/65

Underachievers in the last two seasons, Boro now have the right man at the helm to reignite the club and they'll play a nice attacking brand of football that will be pleasing on the eye to watch. Finished last season well.

SELL

Birmingham....70/72

Financially big question marks about Carson Yeung and his investment. Still reeling over McLeish shock departure, I think the board will make the mistake in appointing Houghton and a year of struggling is on the cards with probable depatures of Johnson, Dann and Foster.

Derby....56/58

Getting worse by the season under Clough, none of the summer signings have stood out and if they start badly, could see a change of management.

Coventry....52/54

Financially a big concern, not sure Thorn (ex chief scout) will achieve same level of success as McDermott did with us. Crowds drying up, the probable depature of Kieran Westwood is a big blow. Could see City relegated this season.

I think it's a bit early to be nailing you colours to the mast, but if I had to put money down now then

Buy
Southampton - some very good players and a team that's been put together over a couple of years. Momentum will serve them well too.
Leicester - 74 points would put them solidly in the top 6 but I think they'll be one of those in the top 3 and aiming for 80+
Palace - I've a funny feeling for Palace for no reason whatsoever. Not a sensible way to spend your money but I can see them looking at the play offs.

Sell
Millwall - losing Morison will probably hit them hard and they've now lost the momentum from getting promoted
Forest - I expect them to lose a couple of their better players and not be pushing for the play-offs. 69 points might be half a dozen more than I'd expect right now but if they keep their better players this will be a losing bet!
Reading - play-off hangover and failure to replace our expected departures could see us having the season we would've had this time round were it not for that 8 game winning run

Agree with this, but part of the fun as prices will move a bit before kick-off as players move around. I tend to place some now, some half at beginning of season and a few midway through.

The top performers from last season will be sold over the coming months, I don't expect us to perform quite as well as we did last season.

Re: Burnley. They aren't all that really, we took 6 points off them last season, they didn't end the season in very good form and they nose-dived a bit after Howe's initial honeymoon period. Midtable fodder.

Taking Hull as an example

Hull 66/68

If you think they're going to walk the league and get 106 points you'd 'buy' at 68 because the fictional bookie will pay you £20 per point above 68 - a cool £760. However, if at the end of the season they have 58 points you'll lose £200

Or you can 'sell' at 66 where you think the bookie has overestimated the points total. At the end of the season points fewer than 66 will earn you money, above 66 will cost you.

I think.

Each club has two values : e.g. "West Ham....73/75 "

BUY if you think they're going to get more points than the higher figure.

SELL if if you think they're going to get fewer points than the lower figure.

The greater the difference in each case the more you win.

If you buy a team you think they will do well... if you sell them you think badly.
This is compared to their estimated points price e.g. 73-75. The price on the left (73) is the sell price. If you sold West Ham at 20 pounds per point and they got 70 points, you will have won £60 (3 x 20). If you bought West Ham at the price on the right (75) and they finished with 70 points, then you would have lost £100 (5 x £20).
The gap in between is the bookmakers margin.

Make sense now?
