Oh ok, I thought you meant Spanish clubs. The other big Basque teams did have the same/a similar policy until quite recently, iirc. I was wondering if some Catalan or Gallego team did it as well.

Don't think so, no. Barcelona would be the only ones with the inclination to and they'd be fvcked without Messi or Iniesta.

handbags_harris Getting back to the serious stuff, I think Athletic Bilbao provided me with the most entertaining style of play I have ever seen in last season's UEFA Cup. Utterly relentless all action pressing the like of which I have never seen before or since, and a shame they ended up burning out.

Same thoughts here.

Coach was Marcelo Bielsa who turned Chile into a very decent team to watch around the time of the 2010 WC.

Nice city Bilbao. Great seafood. Hairy women. Been twice but never during football season. Art gallery even better in the flesh than in pics.

Interesting that you're doing this as spanish language project, given that at least in theory they speak Basque there. Itself a fascinating 'language Isolate' in that unlike the rest of Europe it is not based on indo-european roots. Locals didn't seem to understand my English, Spanish or French. But then I am linguistically challenged.

Other point about sport there is Pelota - I saw this played on a warm evening in French basque territory - just south of Biarritz. Fascinating game to watch, very highly skilled and appears to require significant athleticism and stamina. None of which is needed to in the stands, eat nuts, drink red wine and watch the pretty girls.

Yes, the kicker is my professor is from Basque (I had no idea) and was excited when I mentioned it as a potential topic. So the fact that they speak Basque and not spanish wasn't important.

Here is my esquema (outline):

Historia del Athletic Club de Bilbao

Qué es el Pais Vasco

Independencia del Pais Vasco

Reacciones frente al terrisomo

Cómo se sienten los Vascos sobre el Club de Bilbao

La politica de Cantera

El éxito a pesar de la politica de Cantera

¿Hay otros equipos que siguen una politica similar?

El Estadio / Uniforme

Himno y canciones populares

Copa de la UEFA
