It's going to be a good bit of light summer entertainment. No emotional investment without England there. Watching England at a major tournament is really hard work sometimes so it'll be nice just to focus on the football for its own sake.

I'll be rooting for Japan with the Mrs but I expect their interest may end early.

I thought that about EURO 2012, applying blind before the draw had even been made. I got two games - England v France and England v Sweden.

I went out to the Confederations Cup in 2005 when it was in Germany. It was a good chance to have a mini holiday and watch a bit of football into the bargain.

I don't think I'll be avidly watching the games on tv though.

Blimey, just checked the prices - cheapest tickets priced at $60! Crowds will be awful.

The three games combined I saw in Germany only cost €62 (€17, €17 & €28)

Deadlock
stealthpapes So Tahiti won the OFC tournament because New Zealand I think had issues with getting some of their European based players over.

Since Australia left the OFC to join the AFC, there are only 11 members left: American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu. You're guaranteed a whipping boy in the Confederations Cup from that lot.

Well, I'd agree in 10 out of 11 of those teams but I'm assuming you know a different New Zealand to the one that exited the 2010 World Cup Finals unbeaten and finished above Italy in their group.

Yeah, I'm thinking of the one that lost to New Caledonia.

Barry the bird boggler Oooh, I can hardly wait for this next round of pointless money making for FIFA

Don't be so cynical. It doesn't make all that much money - the reason they have it is to ensure the world cup facilities are ready and looking at Brazil this is probably needed!

Is it worth splashing the cash for the euros? I am thinking about France 2016, long way away I know, it will be fairly cheap to travel around and should be a good crack.

One half of the Nigerian team has missed their flight to Brazil according to Oluwashina.
Nigeria (1st batch) left Windhoek for Brazil via SA. On the plane: Enyeama, Ejide, Oduamadi, Babatunde, Musa, Akpala,Ujah, Ideye, Omeruo.
Drama: Nigeria (first batch) have missed their flight to South Africa en route to São Paulo. They've rejoined rest of the team in Namibia.
From his twitter feed

Sounds like they'll leave tomorrow with the rest of the team from Windhoek

Surprised the only live football the bbc have had all season is this. Guess they are using it as a trial run on however they plan to broadcast the world cup.

Italy playing some beautiful stuff. Giaccherini, Montolivo and De Sciglio looking great.

Doesn't show it very well but the goalie just dropped his hands when the ball came at the goal.

The ball had past him, and he thought he was going to collide with the post.

Pirlo knew it was in before it was halfway there, he'd caught it perfectly and knew it, he was wheeling away as it hit the net.

Lovely.
