Royal Rother South Coast Royal RG30 Hard to have any sympathy for Toney. Rules are very clear. Written reasons will reveal more.
Have never understood why players can't bet on matches that don't include their club especially if the bets are for another division or country.
Slippery slope.
If allowed in any form on any games, the habit sticks, spreads and then the potential for mass corruption digs in and ultimately the status of the game collapses from where it is now.
Big leap of course but that’s how they should (and probably do) assess the issue of footballers betting on football.
Obviously jockeys are not allowed to bet but do we know if there are any sports where betting is permitted.?
When sports like tennis, athletics and so on were on an amateur basis I guess there could be no such restrictions but when it is the individual's contracted mode of work they probably have to apply.
Incidentally even in the example that RG 30 gave, any inside information (injuries, team selection etc.) is surely minor because of it being a team game whereas the risks are surely much higher in individual sports.
The reason why I thought Trippier should have received a greater punishment is because he was advising people about something that would definitely happen whereas other "information" is in no way certain to make the event happen, especially in a team game.
