it's an interesting one this. UEFA have now set a precedent for themselves and HAVE to ban everyone who appeals against a player who dives

UEFA also refused to overturn Fletchers red card last season where he missed the final when the ref clearly got it wrong, yet ban Eduardo for something that has blighted our game for 5-10 years

Not at all, look at RG6's comment, they only need to investigate dives if it makes a difference to the outcome of the game.

so where do you draw the line? Arsenal were 2-0 up from the 1st leg and playing at home. When wouldn't that dive have made a difference in a 5-1 agg win???

I, for one, say good on FIFA and hope that they enforce such a line for ALL dives, not just one's that result in a penalty or that have an immediate impact on the result of the tie. I think it will make the contests much more even and exciting and I look forward to the final which I think, this year, will be between Manchester United Reserves and an Inter Milan team made up of players scrapped together after Leonardo rings virtually every able-bodied male in the city the night before to check on their availability..

What's to say that Celtic could have got 2 goals after the penalty got turned down? The penalty effectively killed off the tie.

Surely anything that happens on the pitch has an impact on the result. Even if the dives in your own half, and wins you posession that you might not have had.

Even taking into account how football sometimes throws up improbable results even a deaf arsenal hating idiot could see that wasn't going to happen.

Fcuking idiot talksport presenter saying that Eduardo should have been banned for 10 games. Dunno who he was, some cockney bloke who wouldn't take in anyone else's opinion, was trying to listen to it on the way home from work last night but he made me too angry with all the bollox he was spouting.

UNless UEFA have now advised refs that diving is a red card 2 match ban offence there is absolutely no justification for this ban, even Spacey would be able to see that if he tried.

Fine, clamp down on diving but don't just make shit up as you go along or nobody will know where they stand.

Also, if this is now the norm, apart from everyone being banned for the last game of the group stages, what is the punishment for a dive where there has been no contact and no danger of contact (not the case in Eduardo's incident)? Stoning? Beheading? Being forced to work for TalkSport?

Hope UEFA extend Aiden McGeady's ban to fit in with their new 2 game ban for diving policy.

Gerrard won't play many games if they invoke this rule to every diving incident.

So UEFA have basically said, get caught diving in a game, get a yellow - carry on playing and only get banned for one game if you get 3 yellows.

Don't get caught in a game by the ref but by video evidence and someone moaning about it - get a two match ban. Riiiight.

Champions League final.. deadlocked between Real Madrid and Manchester United

in the dying minutes Rooney runs into the box and falls over.. penalty given and United win 1-0. Rooney's punishment for winning the Champions League? Missing two games. I think I know the reason why UEFA/FIFA never touched diving, it pretty much makes the result a sham.

I see that Arsenal are appealing against the decision to ban him. How can they defend Eduardo? He dived! They should increase the ban for the frivolous appeal. Or better yet throw them out of the competition. ;)

I note that the scottish keeper Gordon said that the bans probably won't make a difference as a player could cheat and win the game, reap the rewards before being banned. Good point. But the diving still has to be punished some way.

You would have to be 100% sure it was a dive though... this is where video replays would have to come in.

Chelsea are only the second club to have their transfer windows closed.

Arsenal are only the second team to have a player banned for two games for diving.

Players are tapped up every year by all the big European teams.

Players dive in just about every game.

So why have Chelsea and Arsenal been picked on? Let's see, what have thet got in common? Oh, yes, they're English.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
