Explains why they've been so keen to get all their stars on long contracts this summer. Obviously knew this was on the way.

AF1 will be appealed and suspended

FIFA statute 64 bans clubs, associations or confederations from recourse to the domestic or European courts against FIFA rulings.

Chelsea's only appeal is to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) at Lausanne, Switzerland.

Standard negotiation move from FIFA surely?

They want Chelsea to be punished. They also know Chelsea will appeal and therefore in all likelihood in one way or the other will see their sentance reduced.

Therefore give them a harsh penalty.

Chelsea appeal.

Settle on banning them for the rest of the season (i.e. Jan transfer window).

Job done.

LMAO

However I almost feel sorry for them.

Man City have been unsettling players all transfer window and have got away with it completely

And no wonder that the wage increases have been high. The players have them over a barrel if they say they wish to leave.

"It happens across Europe all the time" Is what I'm hearing a lot on Sky Sports news.

How often are complaints lodged and uphelp?

If no one complains (because they are doing it themselves) then on the few occasions that someone does take umbridge then FIFA need to hit hard, otherwise they will never discourage the act.

Difference between turning a player's head and consequently him;

1) handing in a transfer request
2) unsettling the relationship and so the owning club is forced to agreed a fee and the player moves (i.e City,Everton,Lescott)
3) walking out on his contract

I am led to believe most occasions, 1) & 2) happen across Europe. However, I believe 3 happened in this instance, and should rightly be heavily punished.

Haven't read all the detail behind this, but what surprises me the most is that Chelsea believed (or did they?) that Lens would simply let this happen/that they would get away with it. Seems a silly risk to take.

Taken from the Chelsea site:-

Chelsea Football Club has issued the following statement:

Chelsea will mount the strongest appeal possible following the decision of FIFA's Dispute Resolution Chamber over Gaël Kakuta.

The sanctions are without precedent to this level and totally disproportionate to the alleged offence and the financial penalty imposed.

We cannot comment further until we receive the full written rationale for this extraordinarily arbitrary decision.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

I'd settle for Kenyon being ritually disembowled and Cashley receiving the joy of a week of water torture instead of that punishment... I'm sure Ambramovich would agree to that.
