Tony Le Mesmer i thought Lincoln had a better record, but im not arguing with 'The Cube'.

Edit:

Lincoln had a 32 10 4 record for 74 points, the equivalent of 106. So yes, i am completely wrong that they bettered it.

Sod the points total. We did it by losing a mere two games. Lincoln lost four. So we're better than them 8)

We drew 1-1 with them at Easter in that season at Elp Park, then got promoted with them. My first match.

Will Leeds beat our record for most points?

by NR_Royal » 09 Dec 2009 19:04

I reckon they could if they continue their form...after 19 games, we had 44 points, +22 GD. Leeds currently on 46 Points +27 GD.

Could they do it? :o

Depends on keeping players when the transfer window re-opens. Lots of talk about Beckford moving.

As above, there is another thread for this, but yes, it's very possible, they look a class above everyone in the division. It will be interesting watching our record from 05/06 and theirs this season diverge and converge over the next few months. It's about now we got shit hot and won 10 or so on the bounce, iirc, and then we drew a load at the end of the season, so Leeds might slip behind us through Xmas and January.

They have the JPT and the FA cup on top of a crowded fixture list. Beckfords contrct runs out at the end of the season so Bates may cash in in January. Can't see them doing it myself, they have had a lot late lucky one goal wins, can't remember us having many of them?

Massive agree with this. IMO Beckford will move somewhere as I think will Snodgrass.

Not on the evidence of Saturday. No Snodgrass and Beckford was poor / well marked. They are not as good as Charlton from what I saw

Leeds dropped two points at home to Wycombe. Going in the right direction.

After 24 games:

Reading 05/06 59pts +36
Leeds 09/10 57pts +32

Leeds have played 13 at home and only 11 away, plus have a fixture backlog and the prospect of Beckford being sold/losing interest.

On the flip side, Reading won only 6 of their last 13 games

Good defeat for Leeds today.

After 25 games

Reading 05/06 62pts +38
Leeds 09/10 57pts +30

^ For what I've got to believe is the first time this season, and taking all league games played into account while disregarding recent form and other interpolations, Leeds are now on a pace that falls short of 106 points for a total haul (to be specific, it computes to 105, rounded)

Record looks a lot safer now after 3-0 defeat for Leeds last night

A point from their last three in the league (and 12 from their last eight) and outscored 6-1 in the bargain

Hadn't noticed before the game that Norwich had drawn level with them in the table and are now three points to the good (albeit Leeds with a pair of games in hand), and automatic promotion nothing like a certainty with Charlton on their heels

Max haul for Leeds is down to 117 with 20 to play, and season form calculates to 101 points, rounded

So I'm done worrying
For the most part

The record is going to be enormously difficult to beat. Norwich losing and Leeds drawing today, Oxford and Stevenage both dropping points. No matter how dominant you are in your league, sustaining the pace for nine months is a Herculean labour.

Indeed Archo, and one thing that illustrates it is the fact that five draws from their final 18 (or a pair of defeats and draws, or three defeats and a draw) would suffice knock Leeds off of the record

That'd still leave 'em with 44 points (or 43) of a remaining possible 54, which alone is still good enough to make for a 112-point pace (or 110) over a full season

Bump and update after games at weekend of 27th Feb:

Almost there. With maximum points 4 teams can catch us:

Newcastle can get 108 (1 defeat or two draws scupper them. 1 draw equals us)
Norwich can get 108 (ditto)
Rochdale can get 107 (any draw or defeat scuppers them)
Leeds can get 106 (Equal us. Any draw or defeat scuppers them).

With 13 or 14 games left it looks pretty nailed on that we can rest easy now this year. Interesting that Leeds looked a major threat, but have been crap since they beat Man Utd, whereas Norwich, who lost their first game 7-1 (?) at home, have emerged as the top team in League One.

Yup (and I confess that I still track this on a more or less daily basis )

Leeds' win over Utd in the Cup indeed may be looked back upon as the spark that eventually burned down their league campaign, or at least charred the hell out of it --W2 D5 L3 over their last 10 in the division since that day at Old Trafford, which is something very much like relegation form (and they got kayo'd over two legs on pens in the semis of the JPT Cup)

Just imagine where they'd be now had they not nicked all of those latelatelate wins during the first half of the season

And indeed, I well recollect Norwich getting clobbered at home in their curtain-raiser as it happened (and by Colchester no less IIRC)
