USA_Loyal_Royal possible united side with v. persie injuried

de gea
rafael, jones, rojo, shaw
blind, hererra
di maria, rooney, mata
falcao

the only problem is playing mata out of position (again), all together it is a really strong side that should do well in the premier league. the defense is a little light though, blind, hererra, and rojo are all unproven in this league and could easily be flops.

van gaal might oxf*rd up the tactics though and united could be in for another shit season.

i wonder what will happen if united dont get champions league football this season after spending this much? ffp will surely come into affect at some point.

It's already in effect...

Man Friday It all feels ominous for Man U...it has an air of desperation. Look at the team that thrashed Arsenal 8-2 AWAY a couple of seasons ago:

01 De Gea
03 Evra
04 Jones
06 Evans
12 Smalling
08 Anderson (Giggs - 68' )
17 Nani (Park Ji-sung - 68' )
18 Young
23 Cleverley
10 Rooney
19 Welbeck (Hernandez - 35' )

Most of these players (the ones highlighted) people are now saying are mediocre. Well they weren't so mediocre under Fergie. In fact these players went on to win the PL the following season by some distance. Still, they're rubbish and Fergie was lucky and the rest of the clubs didn't try, blah blah blah.

There's no question that Fergie was an exceptional manager. It's also clear that he (and Utd) had an aura of near invulnerability and I think in many cases were halfway to winning games before anyone even stepped on the pitch. That's gone now.

How many of the top six's first teams do you think Cleverley, Young, Anderson, Fletcher, Smalling, Jones, Raphael and co could force themselves in to? I'd say it's very few if any.

It's bizarre that a team that's crying out for top quality experienced defenders and midfielders is spending millions on bolstering it's already excellent attacking choices. I could understand a bit if they'd got rid of Rooney, who seems to be less interested these days, or van Persie, who don't seem to click as a partnership. But they've kept both.

Rafael, Smalling and Jones are good players.

Rafael was voted third best (united) player the season United last won (romped) the title behind RVP and Carrick.

I've no idea how anyone can really judge Smalling and Jones as CB's when they haven't really consistently played there

Also United defence will end up something like CB's depending on 5 or 4 at back

Rafael --- Evans/Jones/Smalling/Rojo --- Shaw

that looks ok to me. Liverpools defence doesn't look that great. City's has DeMicahels and Micah Ricards etc Terry is ageing and pos past it>

Raphael has always left me with the impression that he's nearly incapable of defending, but isn't good enough going forward to be a winger. I'll admit I don't pay that much attention to the PL though.

DiMaria destroying Germany 1 goal, 3 assists. Will be great to be able to bring him off the bench when Young or Valencia get tired

Is that the Micah Richards that left? And the Demichelis who will be phased out very soon?

Anderson, Young, Cleverley are shit
Nani has all the attributes to be world class but has been shit
Jones/Smalling/Evans all have potential but have also been shit (played out of position a lot and never had a run at CB)

Sh1t this, sh1t that, but they performed brilliantly under Fergie. Still, don't let the facts get in the way and so it's back to sh1t this, sh1t that.

Read a couple of posts above where I'm saying something fairly similar to what you're saying about United's team.

The reality is that:
Nani has been loaned out because he hasn't been performing for a while now. The only one you could say played consistently well under Ferguson
Jones/Smalling/Evans all have question marks. They need to step up this year or be moved on. Evans was adequate cover under Ferguson
Anderson has somehow managed to stay at United where he has done nothing for years. Been hampered with injuries but needs to step up or be moved on
Cleverly has been loaned out

Watched the United pre-season games and i'd say Young and Fletcher were the standout's in the team that beat Liverpool, Roma, Inter, Real etc.
They have been very poor in the 3 games so far esp Fletcher

7 seasons and started just 70 league games. All for the bargain price of €30M.

i love how carried away the pundits are getting with how man united are playing. they are playing qpr who will likely end up relegated at old trafford and this is their one decent performance of the season so far. they still look extremely unbalanced. id love to see them come up against a decent side and see how they are able to compete.

it is truly unbelievable how easy uniteds first set of fixtures are and how they are unable to take advantage. they will likely be in trouble when they play a side that has some real quality.

You don't know this for certain. It's not exactly certain what the easy fixtures are at the moment. Are Villa actually good this season or have they been lucky etc.

United should have their 'better' defenders back. They were without nine first teamers in the first couple of matches
