I know BMc performs miracles on a regular basis, but turning Sonko post-injury into even half the player he once was, a player who is comfortable at this level, is one miracle too far, I think.

My heart would love it, my head is pretty certain that he'll be a liability.

Happy to be proved wrong, of course, but that really would BMc doing the impossible.

I think if we get this other guy in, and we have Pearce alongside him, that should be our backline.

Then Sonko and Morrisson can be cover. Don't see the issue with that tbh.

id be happy with that- esp with bryn and harte as cover

and ill be waiting to see what BMcD thinks about sonkos attitude/fitness/ability, and my own assessment in actual games before writing him off.
he may have had his fill of kryptonite recently, but it would be wrong to write him off and think he was beat too soon.just ask lex luthor.

Sonko as back up is good, as he already knows the club and style of play etc.....so it should hopefully take him less time to get back to a decent standard

It's the HNA? way to write off players before they pull on the hoops.

Can we technically still call ourselves Hoops as they stop halfway round the shirt now? :?

Whatever happens I'd say it is still most likely to be Morrison and Pearce to start vs Milwall?

No chance.

Khumalo will play every game he is available for. Really classy player. Edit- actuallysome chance as they have now two half friendlies under their belt! But pearce and khumalo will be first choice in general I think.

African nations will be Morrison's chance.

I('s very simple.

RFC will never be a 'big club'. We may now float between the Prem and 'League 1' unless some mad man comes in and throws lots of cash at The Mad Man.

And I really don't want that.

I like the fact that we are one of the oldest clubs in the world, we have a great chairman and managers past and present including McGhee and Pardew and Sir Steve, and we've uncovered classy players over the years from Jenkins to Friday, Dixon to Doyle.

I don't expect much and it's all the sweeter when something - anything - is achieved on so little. In fact, my biggest regret of the past 20 years is not playing Aldersh*t.

Of course, it's "nice" to see RFC playing with the big boys but I also miss trips to Spotland and Sealand Road.

We have a superb academy, facilities we never dreamed of when wading through the piss of the South Bank in the 60s, and if we have a vulnerable but classy old boy like Sonks that wants to come home and fight for the shirt, that is good enough for me.

SymonsO Do most players at this level have websites.

Sonko looks like an absolute unit on the front page.

Pearce with Morrison as cover
Khumalo with Sonko as cover.

Bryn & Harte for short term emergency cover or if we lose one of Pearce or Khumalo and Sonko & Morrison are in piss poor form. :)

marcusopp This thread has become the same old shit about half the fans wanting us to spend shed loads of money (e.g leicester).
Sonko's on trial, it's up to him to prove his worth. If he impresses, we'll sign him on (i'd guess) a cheap 1 year deal.
Even if he's not as good as before, he'll still be a good role model for the youngsters, and he's a good guy, always seems positive.
He said on sky sports that he's not concerned about money, just wants to play. That's a good attitude too.
I swear half the idots on this site haven't got a clue about football and would be the first ti complain if ticket prices went up to fund expensive signings. If you really don't like it, support chelsea or man city!!

Amen to that, Sir.

Whilst there's stiff competition from other notable thread's, this one takes the biscuit for the depressing ignorance expressed by the Grade "A" pricks who infest this forum whilst insisting their clueless negativity counts as some form of support for RFC.

If Sonks never again becomes the player he once was, it will be because he injured himself trying to run through one brick wall too many for this club.

Only those who have were at Northampton or, witnessed any training sessions this week, are in any position to judge whether re-signing this member of the best team we ever had would be "a backward step" or not but, any true fan would be delighted that a player who was thoroughly deserving of his superman tag is being given a chance to prove his worth once more.

Frankly, some of our "fans" make me seriously sick

Never had you down as the sentimental type, Woodcote. Whilst personally I have no issue with Sonko training at the club - for until yesterday afternoon when the Khumalo deal was signed we were absolutely desperate for centre-half cover - I'd rather hope that his past achievements will be totally forgotten by the management so as they can give an objective view of whether he is worth signing up. And I have to nod rather sagely at comments about Sonko barely having played in an injury-ravaged and error-strewn last three seasons, for that is more relevant than what he may have achieved for us 5 long years ago.
