BRO_BOT Just watched the pen in slow mo...can't see that he touched it twice

If they had a sensor on the ball that said this was the case, then I could believe it, but not by visual inspection.

It's absolutely ludicrous that this decided a teams Champions League tie.

Also, why disqualify the penalty if you think he did kick it twice, it's not helped him, it's a hindrance if anything. Ask him to retake it if you are not happy with the pen (or just allow it to stand as it was unintentional and didn't help him at all)

Seems utterly bizarre that a penalty has to be retaken if there's encroachment in the area or if the keeper's off his line, but there's no redress in this situation where there was a minimal at best double-touch.

Because the rule in shoot outs is that the penalty is disqualified.

I know. i am making the point that the rule is beyond stupid and should be changed.

My opinion is that if you are searching amongst loads of camera angles and then slowing it down frame-by-frame to see if a player's weaker foot might have touched the ball for 0.01 seconds, then you have lost what the spirit of the game is

But that's what VAR is for, to destroy the spirit of the game and make sure everything is technically correct.

Lol. UEFA and FIFA to 'review penalty laws' after the Alvarez incident. I'm sure that will make Atletico feel much better about the situation.

Eintracht in to yet another Europa League QF with a 4-1 demolition of Ajax (6-2 on agg) - should have been more - and this season is having a weird deja-vu vibe about it.

When Eintracht won it in 2022, the final was in Spain and they beat Rangers in the final.

This year, the final is in Spain and Rangers are still in the competition on the other side of the draw.

Of course, both will crash out in the QF now.

Winston Biscuit Penalty being VARred, and then disallowed, when the next penalty taker is ready to take theirs. Seemed odd.

Also couldn't see his standing leg touch it on the brief replay on TNT Sport.

TV sources are capped at 30fps. VAR has access to cameras that have much higher frame rates and therefore show images that you can't see with the tv sources.

Personally I think it should be a retake like it is when the keeper comes off his line.

Ita now all but mathematically done that the PL are getting a 5th spot in the CL next season.

The only way it can be stopped is if Inter win the CL, Lazio win the Europa League and Fiorentina win the Conference League, and all 3 would also have to win every match (not just tie) in the knockouts too.

With top 5 getting CL, 6th place gets Europa League along with the FA Cup winners. Carabao Cup winners get the Conference League so if Liverpool (and maybe Newcastle depending on where they finish in the league) win that tomorrow then 7th in the PL gets the Conference League.

The other Europa League sport could get put into an extra PL place too depending on who wins the FA cup

Also, don’t the Europa League winners get parachuted into the next season’s CL? And given the domestic cr@pness of Spurs and ManU against their better European form in a sea of blandness that could be 6 English “Champions” next year.

By the same token do the Conference winners get parachuted into the Europa League?

Yep. Spurs & Man Utd are on opposite sides of the draw too so they cant knock each other out on the way to the final. If Villa win the CL and finish outside the top 5 then they also go back in as an extra team too.

Yeah. Unless obv that teams gets into the CL by way of their domestic league
