No Fixed Abode Would have thought you guys would be worrying about your own club, what with 1 win all season.....

And why is a lifelong fan of the Champions of Europe concerned with the fortunes of an over-achieving Championship team?

I'm sure we are worrying about our own club with regard to league position. I suppose that's better than making ourselves a laughing stock though.

I agree with Rafa:

In 2007 before one of many epic European clashes between Liverpool and Chelsea, Benitez made a comment that was so popular at Anfield that they stuck the words on a plaque and put it on the training ground wall.

‘We don’t need to give away flags for our fans to wave – our supporters are always there with their hearts, and that is all we need. It’s the passion of the fans that helps to win matches – not flags.’

Good to hear that the new Chelsea manager thinks the fans of his team are a load of plastics with no passion.......

Most Reading fans have two teams anyway m8. The team they supported when they were a kid like Liverpool, and then jumping on the bandwagon in 2005 when Reading first reached the Premier League. See Comonurz, Victor Meldrew etc.

Chelsea have been an absolute disgrace over the Clattenburg affair.

Let the poor decisions commence!

^ Arsenal here.

Family tradition to support Arsenal. Even saw a few Arsenal game at Wembley when they were playing their european games there. But were simultaneously watching Reading games, It's difficult to say I supported Arsenal I was so young, it's like an 8 year old saying they believe in God. They have no idea what that even means. They were just a big team that was always on TV and everyone around me was always talking about.

It's been all about Reading since I've been old enough to understand what being a football fan means.

QPR

End of the Stan Bowles era c.1976-1978 iirc

Mostly cos when I started primary school one of my Grandads gave me a QPR sportsbag.

Saw my first 'ding game in '84, a 4-1 home defeat to Donny but it was fcuking magic. Never looked back.

Rumpole To an extent, Kes is right. I actually did 'support' Man Utd when I was a kid - everyone at school supported them so I jumped on the bandwagon. Then one Saturday afternoon my mum wanted me out of the house, and asked our nextdoor neighbour to take me to the football with him. First live match I'd ever seen and it completely blew me away. Reading was the only team for me after that. I was 9, so nothing to do with success, just being bitten by the bug.

I'd hazard a guess that many supporters of smaller teams would have all 'supported' other teams when they were very young children. Glory hunting is natural for a kid, if only to fit in at school.

At my school, most kids supported either Manchester United or Liverpool (as Reading were pretty shit back then). However, the same kids had an 'interest' in Reading as it was the local football club and it was cheaper and more accessible to go. Now, some have carried on supporting United and Liverpool and some, have changed to Reading. However, they still want United or Liverpool to do well.

^^^ this.

Was far easier being Giggs, Shearer or Fowler in the playground than Lovell, Morley or Martin Williams... although you'd possibly have put in better performances on the playground than Williams did at the Madejski.

That's a great analogy. I concur with this.
