RG30 How about this for a bookmaker to settle. Imagine if you had an enhanced double of Villa/Spain to be top scorer/winner respectively (which was 20's at the start of the tournament). Would you expect to be paid fully as both won (although the top scorer was in a dead heat). On this kind of bet, there are no specific rules so a tough one for bookies to decide on. Amongst us in our shop we had conflicting views on whether the customer would get paid out fully or not.

Does it not depend on how the bookmaker titled the market?

If it was "Tournament Leading Scorer" should be paid as a 3 way dead heat.
If it was "Golden Boot Winner" should be paid out to Mueller only meaning any Spain/Villa doubles would be a loser. You would be gutted though.

RG30
Stuffed Crust Pizza A friend back Muller to win the Golden Boot yesterday lunchtime at 7/1 at his local bookies. All well and good as he looked forward to collecting his £120 returns this morning. However the bookie refused to pay out as he claimed Muller ended up as joint goalscorer! The cheeky git fails to understand that as Muller has more assists than the others then has officially been crowned as the Golden Boot winner. The bookie has agreed to call main office and check with them on whether or not to pay out. Betting slip clearly states: Thomas Muller to win Golden Boot @ 7/1.

Is the bookie bang to rights?

From my experience, the price quoted would have been for the top scorer unless it was specifically stated it was for the golden boot, which I very much doubt the bookmaker in question would have given a price for. In any case, the bet would be paid out under the dead heat rule which in the case of the WC, your friend would only get a fifth of the profit because of the five top scorers all on 5 goals.

I'll bow to your itk but surely if a punter offers a wager "Thomas Muller to win Golden Boot @ 7/1" and the bookie accepts his stake, marking the betslip accordingly then that is the bet/contract that has been made.

Other markets quoted in the shop are irrelevant to the wager offered and accepted.

The attraction of the bet itself is the enhanced price for scorer/winner combination, but given it was a dead heat on half the selection, I'm not sure how you decide fairly whether in this particular market you just pay out for the win. For me anyway, I would have paid out fully on this bet and then any top goalscorer only bets paid out in accordance with the dead heat rules.

If a customer had said to me "I want to be XXX on being Golden Boot winner" then I and I'm sure nearly all betting shops staff would have assumed they meant top goalscorer market as until yesterday I'm sure 99.9% of punters, fans, pundits didn't even know was there to be a dead heat then it went to FIFA rules, otherwise we would have released a seperate market. But it is the customer's resposnibility to check the bet before leaving and given it was the World Cup and a crucial event I'm sure some discretion would have been used if necessary.

I think it should be paid out as a 3 way dead heat from

Mueller/Spain
Villa/Spain
Snejder/Spain

its not a "double" bet as such just a winning combination

bad results for British teams on tours in the USA could be worth a go. They are in the middle of their season and fired up for the games, whereas our teams are still in the "training exercise" phase and don't give a shit, and consequently have a pretty ropey record over there.

There are some Scotish cup ties this weekend for the sides in Div 1,2 and 3.

Highland League season also starts though not sure any high street bookies take bets on matches in this league.

Skybet usually do a good selection of Highland stuff IIRC.

On the back of a successful day at Goodwood last Thursday have today backed both Hull and Cardiff on the spread, effectively NOT to finish in the top 6.
Have already done us e.w at 14/1 but will go in again if we make a centre-back signing before the end of the month.

33/1 (Corals) about the Sig top scorer looks good e/w value. 4 places warrants a £25 e/w bet.

All over Gylfi at 33's. Racing post football pull-out released this Wednesday which is essential reading. The team backed in most this summer (pricewise) has been Boro, went from about 10's to 5's in a matter of weeks.

The bet365 handicap odds are interesting - all at 19/1

I shall be backing the following

- Reading to run away with league. 19/1
- Sheff Utd at each way - 19/4 . ( I can;'t see the teams below them finishing within the requisite amount of points and I think they will be within 15 points of at least 7 of the 11 teams above them.
- Watford each way - 19/4 .This will likely be a winner if they don't get relegated
